My next 3 shoots are for senior portraits and would like to see some samples from y'all for inspiration. For some reason I have it in my head that I need to have each senior in several– 4-5 different locations. How many locations do you typically head for when doing these portrait shoots?

Thanks for any and all help! I appreciate it!

I have had 2 senior sessions and Chris did a shoot with one of the high schoolers we work with (though it wasn't his senior session) If you want to get ideas.

Dan's first love

as far as locations, so far (since I've only really done 2) they have been all at the same location. But I try to pick a location with LOTS of different options.

I'm fortunate to have 8 acres of land with a barn, a couple of hay sheds, and lots of open space. I also have my studio there as well. But really, you don't need to have that many locations to make it work. Be creative. Use ordinary things as backgrounds. Use a wide aperture, and blow out of the focus the backgrounds. You usually get interesting images. Here's a link to my web site. Take a look at my senior section (plenty of images and ideas). If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I love shooting seniors, I am young too so I have fun with it. I typically do one main location (beach, downtown, etc.) than from there choose several scenes (boardwalk, water, rocks, etc.). Feel free to look at my site for examples, 95% of the portraits in my galleries are seniors. smile.gif

Hi Rowena,

Here is a link to my first set of senoir pics. This client drove over from AL for me to shoot her, so I kind of felt like I owed it to her to spend that extra time on her. I actually spent 4 hours shooting all over the place. Like 5 or 6 locations. But it was well worth it. She had a blast and went back and told all her friends, which you know they were jealous because the photographer that they used only took them to a couple of places and maybe spent an hour total.

wub.gif I'm sure the fact that I always get drop dead gorgeous model seniors doesnt have anything to do with it rolleyes.gif

Edited to add (woops I typed a** at first, hehe): i just took a look at your senior, Rowena. It doesnt look like you need much inspiration. I love that shot of her standing on her head. Mind if I steal that for my next one ph34r.gif

Jen, Steve, Crystal, Shelby, Alex – THANKS so much for your samples. All different styles and backgrounds/locations...what I was looking for, a smorgasboard of images to draw from, I'm indebted, thanks for taking the time.

Any others feel free to contribute.

You can check out our senior site www.canfieldjenkins2.com and get some ideas of samples. The sessions are on there as well so you can see how we set those up. Location wise, we offer two different locations but they are very close to home. We have gardens out back and then we go downtown which is one or two blocks. We do a lot of sessions per day so we don't really travel too much. Wish we could though.
