someone may have already posted about this before, but i was wondering how everyone handled flying with their equipment?? are there any risks when the camera or digital media go thru the x-ray scanner? has anyone ever given you a hard time?

my husband and i are going to houston this weekend, and i want to take my gear along. any input would help. thanks!

No risk to camera or equipment from X-rays. Film of 400 or under is safe as well, according to the stuff that they tell us at security.

I had a roll of 400 in a disposable camera going through security screening my last trip, and it's perfectly fine. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Nope, no issues with digital media.

has anyone ever given you a hard time?
of course, who hasn't wink.gif Usually they have to peak into my bag, sometimes it takes 30 seconds, other times it can be a half hour while they wipe everything and inspect it.
The x-ray machine has issues with camera bags because they are so dense already, then you put thick glass and other things in there and can't get a good read.

Always keep your stuff with you, do not check it.
Leave a bit of extra time in case you are stopped.
Have insurance
I get stopped in foreign countries more than our own wacko.gif when leaving the DR 2 years ago I was stopped 7 times from the moment we entered to when we were boarding. Opened the bag 5 times, emptied all my pockets twice. All this while doing aid work and in a group of 20+ and while as sick as can be. Did I mention they are armed military speaking spanish that do the inspections

my experiences have been similar to corey's, although I've noted san francisco and hawaii to have much better security than most national airports. There they tend to want to wipe things down. In hawaii a girl took the 5 x 5 proof book thats in my camera bag and wiped down EACH PAGE lol of a 100 page proof book while im severly late for an interisland flight. I think she just really liked photography as she was commenting on the pics too lol.

In germany they like to take the lids off the lenses and look through, especially larger lenses i.e. 70 - 200

in general though u shouldn't really have any problems and its pretty safe to take ur gear with u!
