Okay, as a new wedding photographer out there, I'm curious if anyone has any suggestions on the best way they've found to market themselves. Is it through paid advertising, having work displayed somewhere, direct mail, what? Just curious to see what you all do and if there is something some of us haven't thought of.

What are your current marketing efforts?
How would you classify your market?
Who are you hoping to reach?

I also might add starting by looking through many of the posts in the marketing thread and seeing if something grabs your interest.

Word of mouth.

Show-It slideshows.

Viral marketing.

Even if you don't have a lot of paying clients yet...go out there, photograph some cool stuff, create a slideshow that people will want to share with others and post it on your blog. Then send the link to all of your friends and encourage them to share it with others.

I do this a lot with sports photography -- from pro-sports on down to my son's baseball league (for example...3 days after the St. Louis Cardinals won the World Series, I created this slideshow of images I shot at a few of the games I went to this year). Even if it doesn't seem related to photography, if it's cool, and people will share it, and it has a link to your site...go for it.

Find sites that have daily photos featured -- like "Awesome Photographs" and others.
