so after countless amounts of trying to get my niece to smile, it finally happened. wub.gif she's one of those kids that knows to stop smiling when a camera is in her face. though when you give up and put the camera away, she is laughing! i am in love with these new pictures i did of her today and wanted to share with you guys!

actually the yellow is the back of this ugly old bookshelf my mom is getting rid of that was in the room we did the pictures. the pink is a tablecloth that we just threw over the shelf. i don't think my mom would go for those colors on her walls. laugh.gif

thanks to all of you guys for the nice comments! wub.gif

i used all window light. luckily with the snow we got, there was a ton more light than usual in my parent's house. i had to take advantage of it. smile.gif

geeze bff dont you read!? tongue.gif jk. the background is this yucky bookshelf my mom's about to get rid of (the yellow) and the pink is just a tablecloth over the shelf. and about the clothes, she has waaaaaay too many clothes! i just think naked babies are much more cute! smile.gif

Those are great!! I love how you can tell that she is a girl without having a bow in her hair or something - what a precious face she has!!

oh I just LOVE these! I actually was wanting to do something similar of my youngest Aiden (he'll be 2 in April). He is so expressive with his face and I want to get several of those in photos like this. My sister gave me some great frames for his room as a Christmas gift, and I want photos like those in his room wub.gif

Thanks for the added inspiration!

I have a 10 month old daughter and don't always have that great of light (no real south facing windows)...I am WAY impressed with how you were able to capture so much light, considering little ones DO NOT stay still very long (ie no low shutter speed).

What lens did you use?

I have yet to introduce myself to OSP, but I am quite interested in kids photography (1 daughter, 1 nephew, and 1 godson within 9 months of each other)...as I want to be able to capture that "awe-inspiring" photograph.

This one is at 1/60, 3.2, and +1/3 EC, ISO100...it was taken within days of getting the camera (XTi)...under similar lighting I would ramp it up to at least ISO 400 and may bump the EC another 1/3 and then drop the apeture to 4. Also, there is no PP...

I am inspired by your work...

first off, welcome to OSP! biggrin.gif second, what a beeeautiful baby! wub.gif

the lens i used for this was a 50mm 1.8 but I shot at 2.8. i'm honestly surprised it actually worked because reagan is very very wiggle-ly. smile.gif it was really tough. i'm not going to lie, there were definitely a lot out of focus because she was moving around so much. laughing.gif

best of luck with everything! i'm looking forward to seeing more of your work on osp!
