What do you all prefer, and why? We all receive a ton of email as it is, and yet you have to make the effort to read a blog post... What do you think?

I am in the process of doing my first newsletter. I am about to re-think that idea. I think more effort on the blog may be more appropriate. But who is our audience for each. Most people on this form and blog savy. Those on a newsletter list of past clients and their friends and family may get more out of a newsletter. Or are newsletters dead?

Interesting topic.

You are right. Going to a blog takes effort. Then the effort becomes addicting and then they are addicted to you! biggrin.gif

Can I have both? I like when I receive weekly newsletters that recap the daily blog. I don't have time to read all of the blogs I love daily, yet the newsletter will tell when there is something pertinent that I need/want to read. I think this is how Photojojo handles it and I really like it.

Personally, I'm more likely to follow an email link for more information from a newsletter than to visit a blog everyday. If its informational, I don't consider it spam. I just like to be able to scan it easily to pull out the neccessary information I need to read more or move on.

I prefer to add blogs to my RSS reader rather than have to sort through extra email. Everything I read regularly is in the same place and I can go to it on a regular basis (or refresh it incessantly if I'm bored).

Awesome feedback! Keep it coming!

I'm one of those people who likes both!

e-mail = spam!

blogs = interesting and informative

If I want something, I want to be able to get it on my time, not have somebody force feed it to me. My inbox is for clients and business. My RSS reader is for info.

I definetly prefer blogs over email. Email sometimes get lost among all the client emails I have to answer.

Blog - because my inbox is full enough! It's also nice to be able to bookmark the information and to subscribe to a feed so I can see it when I want it, instead of ignoring it when it comes at an inconvenient time.

+1 ... do both. Setup an e-mail distribution list to send out blog posts. I get many e-mails a day. Sometimes I can read non-critical stuff, sometimes I can't. The blog posts allow me to catch up. The e-mail, however, allows me to go immediatly to a topic I'm really interested in. Do both. Have folks "subscribe" to your blog notification list.

Awesome feedback again! We're going to have a new informational/education blog at www.photographersoffice.net! We'll be replacing our weekly email with this blog and I think you will find it really helpful!

The cool thing is that you'll be able to subscribe to the blog on the top right hand side of the page so that you will be notified via email if you like email, or you can simply bookmark the blog to look at on occasion!

Thanks all!

one more vote for the blog. I love getting your emails, but like others said, it sometimes get lost in my inbox. And so often when it's helpful information I want to keep it, but then forget about it in my inbox, but a blog I can go back to anytime. I just add all the blogs I love to my RSS reader in yahoo.

Nathan, I love getting your news letter and read it as soon as it comes. Many times I have gone to your blog because of it. I don't have the time to visit as many blogs as I would like to so I don't always make it to them. It is easy to keep up with the news letter though. I would definitely do both, and for sure not phase out the letter.

Hey, we might be going to Disney in March. You still up for a family get together?

What's cool is, I've found you can submit people's blogs to feedburner.com who don't have rss feeds.. then you can just subscribe to the feedburner one and dump all your blogs into a single folder on Safari. Then Safari alerts you when it's updated... you can even read everyone's blog at once time, sequentially scanning the posts by date.

So it looks like this in your browser's bookmark bar.. This is telling me there are 25 posts I haven't read (could be all on one site, could be from various.. you know when you click it and it dropps down to show you everything in the bookmark folder)

Makes it a little easier to keep up.

I was just about to type this exact same thing, send both and make them compliment each other smile.gif

Blogs, hand down.

I say that as someone who has nothing but good from from her portrait business blog .... AND from someone who is a vendor to photographers as well and has nothing but good come from her blog for photographers. smile.gif
