ok ive been thinking of purchasing one of these sets but i am confused as to which to purchase. ive heard good and bad point on each.

i am starting to use indesign more moving away from quark xpress which i am familiar with but need some tips as to which to buy.

Garys set costs $99, wheras kubotas actions cost $249, for uker's £52 and £130 a big difference!

im new to weddings but have a good background in photojournalism, commercial and charity based photography so id like to incorporate these actions, templates into all of these areas of work, therefore you can see why im trying to choose carefully aswell as watching the price!

so what im aksing is what do you guys think, if you have both of these paks please tell me what you think, how they work, whats there benefits and minuses! and how is the workflow on each?

thanks once again guys!

I want to know too.

Fong's

It allows you to design freely, without pre-set templates.

I have both, and prefer the Fong set.

+1

I bought Kubota's, thinking they'd at least be good starting points. But I quickly discovered how much I *didn't* like going through the catalog of layouts (pdf or printed) to find what I wanted to start with. The action names aren't super intuitive at first, and then one you figure out that H3V1 means 3 horizontal images and 1 vertical image, you're still left scratching your head as to what the layout will actually look like unless you run the action of go look it up in the catalog.

All that to say, go with Fong's. It's easier to work with. thumbsup.gif

Kevin Swan is coming out with an InDesign tutorial if you want to free hand it for a while, and make your own templates out of it.

i've thought about this for a while... do you think there would be a market for a fusion of both styles? would people be interested in a set of actions that have both template tools and non-template tools? i design for a few local studios and have my own set of actions that make my freehand designing easier but also a couple templates for basic layouts that seem to always come up in an album.

the catalog though, or naming of a bunch of templates seems like it would always be a cumbersome thing... it seems kubota did as well as he could within the limitations of photoshop actions. you can write a very advanced script for photoshop using javascripting to make it easier but you would really be making a whole program within photoshop.

just curious...

After you guys are designing these albums on your own, where are you having them printed, bound?
