http://www.datarescue.com has a $30 PhotoRescue utility that is a must have for the rainy day in your future. We just recovered the images on a 340MB IBM micro drive that crashed over the weekend.

Nice quote! :-) After this past week a whole slew of Mac users are joining the ranks of "those who have"

I wonder if this is a good argument to get multiple smaller drives for backup meaning there'd be less chance that multiple external drives would fail simultaneously. Then there's still the option of using those fancy DVD burners before you back up to harddrive

:-) Yea...I like the the idea of burning to 2 DVD's and then doubling up on a single big drive...If we need more caution than that then I'm over it!

Another option is some type of RAID configuration. OS X makes it easy to set one up. I've seen a dual external firewire case advertised that will house two drives. I'm curious if it's possible to drop two 120GB drives into the case and configure them in a RAID. That would make for some bulletproof storage (in addition to the two DVD's that have already been burned)

Hey Peter. That's a great idea and definitely the safest and probably the easiest one yet. I'll peak around and see if I can find the company that makes that casing and if you come across it please post it.
