Used raw + jpeg for the first time on a shoot (thank goodness cuz it was a horrid day). Now I'd like to edit in raw but don't even know the steps. Loaded the Digital Photo Professional from Canon which I rec'd in 5D box and trying to read the how to manual.
Questions:
1. Is this what people generally use or some other program?
2. I'm thinking that after you make some changes here you then save as jpeg and apply actions etc. in Photoshop?
3. Is there another book I need to figure all this out?
4. Is this easy to learn or should I just proof the jpeg files... need to show the pics in a few days.
5. Any advise?
Thanks for any and all help, I really was hating this shoot big time while there. It was a shoot on stage and I didn't realize that the stage lighting was made for tv and was super harsh. Hoping to save some photos and save face.

1. most use Adobe Camera Raw, which is part of PSCS2...using this and bridge are very easy and you are able to see the thumbs in bridge and open what you ant from there...you can also save them to jog
2. yes we tweak out the images in RAW (WB color etc) than convert to jobg and do actions \ conversions from there
3. book? no idea but a decent basis is DJ's brilliant settings...I dont use them a lot but it is a good way to start out...its about $50
4.I do a once over in ACR and delete from there..many also o this in bridge.
5. save all raw as jpg before you edit anything then start edited in raw and save those as well...that way you cna go back if need be...we do not save the raws when it is all said and done but many do...
hope that helps a bit

Yay! A reply! Thanks Jason, appreciate that. I think I'll work on the raw files later since it looks like CS2 is the way to go. I only have PS7 and since CS3 will be coming soon I'd rather not buy the 2 and have to upgrade in a short while. Thanks so much for your reply!

I use Bridge. When you're ready to move to a more recent version of PS, check out Scott Kelbys books. I know that he has a chapter about RAW in The PhotoShop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers.
Any changes you apply in RAW will aut save the image as a .psd fle, I believe. This is fine to work with, and then when you're all done with all your edits you can do a batch to jpg under image processor.
It's super easy, give it a whirl. If you had tough lighting, you'll be happier to work wth the RAW files.
Good luck,
Dawn

I honestly don't care for bridge terribly. I've been using Pixmantec's RawShooter Premium for quite a while, and unfortunately they got bought by Adobe and their technology was incorporated into LightRoom. I say 'unfortunately' because I'm really not liking lightroom, although it's better than bridge.

I also have just begun to use RAW. Do I have to have Bridge/Lightroom? or can I just use Image Browser and go to Raw Image Processing?
Also, after adjusting RAW image do I save as JPG in PS or save as PS file, then conversions, then JPG?
One more thing, then I'm done:) Can I use DJ's RAW settings (such as Brilliant) if I don't have Bridge/Lightroom?
Thanks

I taught myself a raw workflow in bridge using kevin kubota's tutorial, available to buy on his website. It was a great tool-lot's of easy to follow videos, he really walks you through it. I'll probably look at lightroom eventually, but I can only learn so many new applications per month!! now it's onto photojunction...yikes!
