This is awesome! I can't believe I missed this thread! Shyla just told me about it so I had to search and find it! I did vote so I guess that says something already! This is fun!

Not sure if this is a thread jack or not because I haven't been able to catch up on all 19 pages, but it seems that many of you are on the right track about love and relationships...some of my friends like to tease me because I have been single since college, but you know I have seen them go through numberous relationships in that time all because they met someone in a bar that was hot and fun to be with, and a month or 2 later the #$%* hits the fan because their values are so far apart it could never work. I, in the meantime, have been content (perhaps a little lonely at times) to be single and drama free:) someday the right girl will cross my path...happily ever after and all that wub.gif

ladies you all knew me before alisha and i got together. mr single himself. loved it. didnt think id trade it for the world.... silly me. i think looking for love can often times lead to poor decisions and poor relationships, but after being hit by cupid for almost a year now (which is crazy to say) i can honestly say dont ever get "too busy for a relationship."

no business or amount of money is worth losing your youth or fun experiences over. the times alisha and i spent at places like the world series, in casinos, the helicopter ride, the on roller coasters (which we'll never do again), on a boat under niagara falls, seeing the yanks beat the blue jays, eating ben and jerry's ice cream in their factory, these were waaaaaaaaaay the hell cooler than sitting at home working.

very few people i know are more ambitious that me, but even so i can honestly say people who give up the idea of being happy and having fun to devote themselves to business.... are missing out on more than they know.

just be open to it is all im saying smile.gif

OK Kristy, since you bumped this and "MADE" me read 19 pages this morning ( I couldn't stop and was lucky my 15 month old was happy eating raisins in his high chair) --- let's hope we get some more juicy info.

Ok people - go.

Is this "REALITY PC" ?? laughing.gif
Shawn Reeder
I can't believe I also got sucked into reading all 19 pages!!!! Pretty fun though. Feel like I got to know some people on here a little better. I hope to meet lots of you at WPPI!!

As for me, I am single, and I love it, but not for being single's sake; I just love life and happen to be single right now. But I would also love to meet someone awesome!! I don't want to date, just to date, but I would love to meet someone amazing to share life with, whether for a little, or for the long haul. I love sharing beautiful experiences with beautiful people.

My problem is that I live in one of the most beautiful places in the world (if you love nature and mountains), yet there's only like 3 single women in town, and lotsssss of guys!!! Ohhhhh!

And I can be a bit shy.

As for OPS crushes, it sure is easy to have a few OSP crushes, thats for sure!!!! I know I've had and have crushes on some fellow OSPers!!!

And the married couples on here are SUCH an inspiration!!!

I asked Amber some questions on Pictage the other night about planning for my business, and she said several times to never loose track of the big picture, and to always keep that in mind.

I couldn't help but think about how amazing it must be to run a successful photography business and family with your life partner, and I can't help but hold that in my vision of a bigger picture for my life as well. Thanks for the inspiration everybody!!!!

Maybe one day I'll meet some lovely OSPer and convince her to import to the Sierras!!

Cheers,
Shawn

It is sooo funny to think in these terms, but my friends also laugh at me when I tell them the same thing!

But I also feel that intention is one of the most powerful forces in the universe, so I'm going to hold that dream in my heart, just not expect it to happen.

For me this is one of the arts of life, to have solid intentions with no expectations. Because if you have any expectations, you can only be let down, where if you have no expectations, you can only be pleasantly surprised.

Shawn

Bravo Matt! I actually came into this thread this morning to say something similar, but see after catching up on the recent posts I see you have spoken well.

I won't need to follow the link from the girls' profiles to read their biographies or about me's looking for words like "husband" or "my beautiful children" or any such reference that says "I'm taken."

What? Like you all haven't done it.

I always had too many matches to go through...I never knew where to start and it was like trying to date 5 women and not accidently call Lisa by the name Sarah.
Ok, not really, but it was hard having 20 different conversations and trying to remember who loves the outdoors and who hates getting dirty. I did have one match that I actually met, but she stole my sweatshirt. I never did get it back. Thank you, Neil Clark Warren. He has written some good books about relationships though.

LOL!!

Well, I never got too many matches at once, and when I did, they were easy to pare down. I think I only got to the 'open discussion' point four times.

No one stole my sweatshirt, but one guy did take me to Olive Garden, ask me to pay half and then whipped out a gift card he got from Christmas so he could pay "his half" of dinner.

Oh well.

I've never understood this behavior. As a man I've done & witnessed some pretty dumb things but this, this is just wrong. On behalf of men that don't talk about the glory days, nor have their mom drop them off for a date and never use a gift card on date, I apologize.

Well I agree about not having expectations et cetera. But I certainly think there is a decorum that should be followed when beginning dating.

Definitely no gift cards and coupons. Or if you insist on using one at least pick up the entire tab. It speaks volumes and you definitely heard what he was saying.

I'm also not a big believer in "trying" to impress on a date. However I think there's a distinction between impressing and putting your best foot forward. The former is going outside yourself, creating a persona that really doesn't exist while the latter is completely real and grounded.

I think you're a real catch Skye. If you only lived closer I'd introduce you to a photography buddy of mine.

I certainly think in time you'll find the right person.
4HisGlory Photography
If only you where a little older Skye -- you would be my dream date (smile). (Sigh)

That said I find myself getting in trouble for sticking to my guns from a Christian beliefs standpoint. I'm a stickler for putting my faith into action, and committed to serving Him in word and deed. To those that haven't made the same choice (or to the same depth) this appears to be intimidating (recently I have been accused of being "arrogant" when in fact I believe that person was being convicted). (I felt similar before becoming committed on a day to day basis to serve Him, feeling those that were living for Him were "goody-goody" - and now find myself on the other side of the fence!)

Having being convicted of my own sin in the last several years I try to show as much grace as possible without promoting "unsafe" or "un-Biblical" behavior.

I have been somewhat surprised to see "interesting" cosmologies from those claiming Christ, some clearly un-Biblical (even on core issues). I recently expressed (when asked) that as a Christian I will bump up against a type of "glass ceiling" in a relationship with someone that doesn't share my beliefs. This is particularly true in a relationship were I am seeking to build intimacy (whether romantic or otherwise). I was told that I was judgmental as a result!

I have a saying (as I age):
"My tolerance decreases as my compassion increases".

In the universe of ideas, not *all* ideas are equal. Thus, I can't be tolerant of views that are counter to my own deeply held beliefs. I can show love (compassion) to someone while vehemently disagreeing with them (or their cosmology).

I hope this all makes sense.

-mike
