Full Version: Gary Fong's album design

Hi Guys,
I have just watched Gary Fong's DVD where he talks about his album design software.
What it doesn't make clear and I really need to know before I comitt myself, is,
can you size up the pages to whatever size you want, or does it default to set sizes for Gary's books. He mentions square and vertical and 10x 8 etc but doesn't actually say ypou can make what size page you want.
I primarily use Graphi with print & bind for my main albums. DG Foto Art is my main album design software but can be a bit slow sometimes. I need to be able to create page sizes to suit.

Are you already using Gary's software? Do you recommend it as a user? Is it worth purchasing?

Carl, I'm hoping I can help here!

When you use the GF actions, the vertical pages are auto sized at 10hx13.33w, 300dpi.
You could change this if needed by copying the action and making adjustments to it.

The square pages are 20w X 10h, at 600 dpi (rediculously LARGE if you ask me!).

I don't use these actions as my sole album design tool, although they are a quick way to get the images you want onto a pre-sized page.

Hope that helps?

Hi Carl,

I have the original version of the GF album actions and the pages are a bit different than the answer above, but the point is that you can resize the pages all you want and can even make extra actions if you want to make other page sizes if you do them often.

Just like Vitae, I use these actions in conjunction with others (my own and other purchased sets) to design my albums.

Thanks Bill, is there a newer version than the one you have then which doesn't allow page resizing?

No, although I'm not totally positive, I believe the new version just has a few more bells and whistles than mine and they updated the DPI setting to get better results with their (Cornerstone) printing process. I use these actions to design for Vision Art and ZookBooks.
