I have a bludomain website and need to find a new host. Although my web host is super reliable they do not offer me enough space, databases or traffic. I don't want to use bludomain's hosting.

Who out there loves there webhost and it works with bludomain.

I looked into POWWEB but they don't have all the requirements that are needed.

THANKS!!!

You don't want to host with Blu? $100 a year.
Brady
Pair Networks is who I have used for years with a few dozen websites, including a blu template smile.gif

My server has been up for 405 consecutive days!

I use ipowerweb and they are able to meet blu's requirements (at least with my template, 26, which is relatively new). They've been very reliable.

My husband uses iPowerWeb for all of his sites. I use GoDaddy for mine and have been extremely happy and the price is great.

So check with either of those to see if they meet your requirements.

I use mediacatch.com because I have to have an SQ something or other for my online shopping kart. (skooks kart)

I can't say we've had 405 consecutive days though. They had server go out and my site was down for a bit several months ago. But they were wonderful about keeping me in contact and just making sure things were OK after the backup was restored. So, besides the initial bump, they've been great.

I'm just now starting to utilize my website. Host images there, share images with clients, etc. SLIDESHOWS! LOL

Trying to drive up traffic to my site to get higher in the listings. Right now when you do a google search for Lubbock Wedding Photographers, it ain't me!

It's the competition. I at least want to be on the starting page.

I'm with alwayswebhosting.com and they are great! If u ask they will up ur space to a reasonable amount and they worked with me to quickly get my blu site working.

miss u!!

Godaddy.com

Their customer service is top notch. For as big a company as they seem I have never had to wait on the phone to talk to someone, and everyone I have talked to knows what they are doing. For as little as $3.19 a month you get 50 GB of space, 250GB of bandwidth, 500 emails, etc. you can upgrade to twice that for just a couple more $. Very reliable servers, easy to upload and compatible with Blu sites. check their plans out here

ICDSoft.com ALL THE WAY!!

TONS of transfer.

AMAZING support if you ever need it. We're talking replies within 15 - 20 minutes! I've been with them for years - and don't plan on changing!

Oh, and did I mention it's $72 a year? thumbsup.gif

Dreamhost

2Gigs of Space

Terabytes of transfer. If you are hosting movies or slideshows, you want a ton of bandwith, cause when your website hits the bigtime, and everybody starts looking at it, you don't want overge charges.

$7.99/month.

Nam,

Just checked out your blog. The new site looks solid. Are you using a different company for your new site? If so, who are you using?

Thanks

Thanks Taka! Did you check out the new site through the OSP post? I am using a BluDomain template for my new site. The old/current website was made by a friend of mine.

Sofia, I currently use PowWeb and I'm interested in a BD website. But I haven't looked into the requirements yet. What requirement doesn't PowWeb support?

I could be confused but bludomain says this:

d. extensions_dir setting in php.ini MUST EXIST. *** very important ***
> For windows servers this folder must be located
> on the same drive as the document root and scripts directory.

POWWEB told me this: The extensions_dir is not exists because PowWeb is hosted under Unix platform.

Anyone computer saavy and understand what that means?

I am in the middle of switching from Bludomain hosting to westhost.com. I'm going to get the PickPic cart when it is released, and bludomain is not PickPic-certified. PP recommended Westhost.

I've been pretty happy with blu hosting, although I had an email snafu this week for one day because I went over my space limit. They increased it for me for free, but I also lost email permanently. The warning-low space email warning went to - yup, my main email account, which was blocked off. rolleyes.gif

bump...anyone with the rockstar template, can you chime in please? Or should I say...are the requirements for all of the flash based blu sites the same??

For those suggesting GoDaddy for the host, are ya'll using BluDomain templates?

I also have GoDaddy. You can find out your hosting plan specs here. Go to the middle of the page and click on the 'compare plans-windows' or 'compare plans-linux'..whichever you chose during sign-up. My stuff is on a Linux box and I'm sure I'm good to go as far as Blu's requirements go. My only concern is how BluDomain does their PHP stuff for the email contact page. I'm not a PHP/Linux buff but I know GoDaddy has some gdform.php file they prefer you to use. I did my initial site in HTML but when I switch to Blu (or Big Folio or Creative Motion Design), I'm thinking I may run into some trouble on the contact page since I may not have direct control over the .fla files. This is the thread that got me paranoid.

So...if anyone using GoDaddy for their hosting of a BluDomain site could reply with their responses....well, that'd be great.
*coralee*
ok..after researching some of the suggestions here, I can verify that Pair Networks (thanks for the tip Brady!) will be able to support all of these requirements that blu templates need...

1. PHP 4.xx or 5.xx with:
a. safe-mode must be disabled (turned off)
b. session and global variables must be set to on
c. max_file_upload set to 6MB or above (or .htaccess
files that can change the php.ini settings for individual
accounts must be supported)
d. extensions_dir setting in php.ini MUST EXIST. *** very important ***
For windows servers this folder must be located
on the same drive as the document root and scripts directory.
e. SecFilterEngine must equal Off
SecFilterScanPOST must equal Off
f. php must have php gd library installed
g. Notices must be turned off

2. server must allow connections to remote databases via PHP
3. server must allow emails to be sent via php script to any email address
4. server must support MYSQL and must have at least 1 mysql database available

IF ANY OF THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET YOUR SITE WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY

They are a little more expensive ($17.95/month) for the plan that will work with the blu templates, but you gets lots and they are super responsive and helpful from the emails that I've sent so far. That's who I'm going with!! and if you prepay for a couple months in advance, this month you can save up to 24% and type in "refugee" on the web form to save the set up fee too!!

Anyone use GoDaddy for their Bludomain site?

I use tlcwe for mine and have never had any problems...great service, too. I have used him for a couple of years but with my Bludomain since December of last year when I got it.

Check your php.ini file at your public_html directory on your server. Mine web site is also hosted under Unix and I have extensions_dir='./'

My web site hosted on hostmonster.com. It is a daughter company of bluehost.com (not the same as bludomain.com). They offer ton of space:

200 Gigabytes of Hosting Space
Host UNLIMITED Domains!!
Unlimited Pop/Imap Email Accounts
SSH Access (Secure Shell)
2,000 Gigs of Transfer
SSL, FTP, Stats
CGI, Ruby (RoR), Perl, PHP, MYSQL
Front Page Extensions
Free Domain Forever

And I just checked with them about bludomain requirements and they told me this:
"Yes, we can support all of those requirements. Also, We don't run mod_security, so
features like SecFilterEngine are naturally turned off."

hostmonster.com - $5.95/month
bluehost.com - $6.95/month

I hope this helps.

I'll second 1and1. No issues hosting my blu site.

Everyone! Please look at www.dreamhost.com .

Number 1, they are only 7.95 a month if you grab the two year prepaid package. 9.95 a month (broke down in price) if you prepay for 1 year (That's how I do it!).

They're fast, reliable (my site has only gone down once in 1 1/2 years).

They ADD space to your site EVERY WEEK and EVERY MONTH (because it adds up). So that means the site GROWS with your business.

The "My Crazy Domain" hosting package is what i use, and I can't even dream of using anyone else.

Likewise, they have a referral system setup where if you want, I can get you a 20.00 discount!

So instead of 119.00 for the webhosting for 1 year, pre paid, for My Crazy Domain package, you get it for 100.00 basically!

Trust me, please... they meet and exceed all of BluDomain's requirements and are a trusted company.

If you would like more details, please pm or email me at tim@tmillerphoto.com I will answer any and all questions. I would also like to exteend my hand is helping everyone out. Anyone who wants the discount can receive it!

Just let me know. I will setup a OSP.net ONLY discount! But I must know the package(s) you desire.
