I had a great conversation with my friend
Jaime Rau, who is a wedding photography and the road manager for
Sara Groves...and we were talking about how crazy all of our lives are now days and how nothing seems to be "normal."
Then we got to thinking - who really wants a
normal life anyway?
There's a great saying,
"
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow!! What a ride!"
Are you living or simply existing? Are you watching life go by and having a "near life experience" - Step out of your comfort zone! you don't have to start big but do something different - something scary - something where you can't control the outcome.
You'll be thankful you did.

Going to OSP West in 3 wks without knowing a SOUL there (that's not skidding broadside, per say). Thanks for the reminder - we should all lead colorful, enriched lives full of fun, energy and change!!!

"Look, I really don't want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you're alive, you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a lot, you've got to make a lot of noise, because life is the very opposite of death."

...Reminds me of a quote that Max originally told me, spoken by one of his friends, Steve Ford. I've got the thing memorized, as I have made many major life changing decisions with these words echoing in my head:
"The only time we should be comfortable is in our favorite jeans. In the rest of it--life, art, work, relationships--we should strive to grow, and growing is never comfortable."
Cheers to an uncomfortable, unpredictable, deliberately lived life!

My wife and I had a serious discussion about 3 years ago when I wanted to race my car. She wanted me to be safe and not do anything dangerous. She told me her mom always told her "you shouldn't go looking for danger, that life itself is dangerous enough" I promptly reminded her that she is always trying to get her mom to do more, and regrets that she didn't persuade her on some occasions. I think thats all I had to say because she let me go and boy am I glad I went.. that is probably the coolest thing I have ever done. She even came along and took some awesome pics of it.
And as DJ quoted "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention to arrive safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming: Wow!! What a ride!"
I'm gonna abuse my body as much as possible.. life's too short and a well preserved body only benefits the worms.

My motto for 2007 is "Typical is not an option." At the end of the year I want to look back at the blur of a year and think, "Wow. Just wow."
Thanks for the encouragement.

What a great quote. Thankgoodness we are allowed to have comfortable Jeans. I don't think I could handle a life full of uncomfortable life, art, work and relationships if it wasn't for my jeans!!

My life has certainly been far from normal. At the end of it all, it may be more like, "what a long, strange trip it's been."
I also like Jewel's perspective of "a life uncommon."

My life is not comfortable and it is definitely not normal...which is why I ask my husband, "why can't we have a normal life?" Which he reminds me I could never do normal.
So to everyone here, thank you! Thank you for reminding me that I really do love my
not normal life...
