Organization is not really something I enjoy and so I admit things often slip through the cracks.

Earlier this year I found a $500 check in one of the books I read but it was a check from a year ago so it wasn't good anymore...and then this morning I was looking for a pass that Pictage had mailed me for this tradeshow and I found this pile of receipts and I thought it was in there but it wasn't...but what was in there was my Pictage check from last month for over $3k - I'm stoked! It's like free money - kinda! http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/Opensourcep...7/organize.html

That's a fun surprise.
We had a fun economic turn of events as well.
We just sold our Konica Minolta 7D on Ebay for way more than what we bought it for !?

It sounds like another great opportunity for outsourcing!
Seriously, just get a third party to handle the finances.
An accountant won't run you much more than the cleaning lady.

So you're saying that IF I finally go through my pile of papers I MIGHT find three thousand dollars? That's a pretty good incentive and I could buy that 5D I've been drooling over dancingbanana.gif

Free money? Hold up. Your clients paid good money to your vendor and you forgot to claim your portion of that money???? That's not free money as much as it is crummy accounting! nana.gif (don't get me wrong...I'll *NEVER* teach a seminar on keep my finances in order!)

Here's a thought...Pictage collects their fees electronically...how hard would it be for them to direct deposit your commission checks?

Oh wait...Pictage wouldn't want to do that...seeing as so many photographers are not cashing their commission checks. (Not a bad racket if you ask me!!)

If you're leaving that kind of money in your vendor's bank account...you either need to implement better accounting procedures...or expect a little more from your vendor. Don't let them tell you they can't do it. They can. In fact, it would save them money on check printing and postage. Don't let them tell they can't do it. If they have direct deposit to their employees, they CAN direct deposit their 1099 partners.

David... this totally happened to us too this month!

Ours was 2200!

It DOES feel like free money... when it's money you don't plan for or even really do anything for!

Love it!

I recently found a check my husband forgot to deposit from over a year ago. He took it to the bank with a few other checks, and they never even questioned it! That is really when it feels like free money.

Just because a check is a year old doesn't mean you should be out the money. Epsecially with an org that you do regular business with. Try to cah it - it will most likely go through. If not just request a new one. If the amount seems to small to mess with, I know you know $500 can go a long way with Thirst Relief smile.gif
