Wow.. what a roller coaster.. yeaterday I get accepted into WPJA and today at the end of my e-shoot with a gorgeous couple, my camera stops shooting... (I freak for a second, but assume it's my lens that always acts up from time to time).. no,... It's my CF card!! It won't read...
so I calmy tell the couple I'll reschedule their shoot, and I'll be in touch, "shouldn't be a big problem"...
but meanwhile I'm freaking out on the inside...

So I'm on my way to the ONLY open camera shop, (wolf camera).. and I call Jason Tench on the phone "do NOT go to Wolf".. and he tolls me about Image Rescue... so I am in the middle of downloading it now.
Has anyone had any experience with this?
My CF card is actually a microdrive CF card (came with my kit)....

ANY help will be greatly appreciated.!!!!!!!
Michelle
Sorry I don't have an answer on that, but just wanted to say congrats on the WPJA!

If your card is readable then the software will recover the images... but since it's a microdrive it might have actually broken and won't be readable. Good luck!

FWIW I stick with Lexar Pro and Sandisk Ultra and Extreme cards. No other piece gear can cause the loss of images, so the extra expense is well worth it to me...

Oh ya, the one that I use is called PhotoRescue..... hope you get it all back!!

Well.. for NOW, everything is being recovered... of course, it's the last 100 or so images that I need the most, so I'll be waiting for a little bit. For now, loks like I'll be ok....
I'm definitely going to switch to a diff. CF card... Jason told me there were some on sale lately, so I'll go check all that out.

Thanks everyone:)

Whew! Image Rescue to the rescue once again huh? Luckily I haven't had the chance to use it yet (thank God) but I know others that have. I'm so happy that it's working for you Amy.

Micro-drives are too fragile.

It's not a good idea to put more than 100 images or so on any card in case of problems - and whenever possible I shoot with two cameras so there are duplicate images in case anything goes wrong (very important during the ceremony and formals).

1. Congrats on WPJA!!!

2. Congrats on Image Rescue coming to the rescue wink.gif It's worked for me before.

3. Also have backup equipment

4. It's worth paying a little more for good brands of cards. Lexar and Scandisk are great.

Hope everything worked out with the recovery!!

This is really scary.

You only had 1 Card with you at a shoot?

jason messer
yep. ive heard bad things about microdrives....too fragile.

contrats on the wpja thing though!!!

You're blessed that your microdrive didn't physically fail on you this time. And it's definitely sound advise to move away from relying on the microdrive and going with compactflash cards. The price for memory is so low now, it doesn't benefit much to save on cheaper memory storage spaces. Get yourself some backup cards from Kingston or Sandisk. smile.gif The peace of mind is priceless.

Smiles,

Kenneth + Elaine
