Full Version: What to do if a bride wants a single digital photo file, not a DVD
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Misc. Photo Question

Sorry if this is a dumb question. This hasn't happened to me yet, but I was curious what is the norm in this situation.

I know some couples like to use engagement shots in their program or invitations. So if a bride asked you if you would provide a jpg of their favorite shot to design into a program or invitation, would you provide that jpg free for maybe in exchange of your credit, charge for the jpg (and what cost?), or tell them they have to buy the whole DVD for all the files?

Just brainstorming to be prepared if that question gets asked to me. Thanks for your thoughts.
Brady
I have always just sent them a full res file for free. I don't want credit in the program either. The $50/file I would charge is not worth it and I would rather them not use a low-res copy from my website or a scan smile.gif

I did have a client one time ask to buy 300-wallet sized prints and I asked if her family really liked that photo... she said no, that she was going to use the picture on the program. I asked if she was going to adhere it to the front and she said no, she was going to scan it but wanted me to be paid for each program. Needless to say, for being so nice I gave her the edited file for free and gave her a little print discount too smile.gif

Wow, what an honest bride! That's awesome she went out of the way to respect your art.

Thanks for the tip Brady!

Scarlett... we generally give the file for free as well...

Although we price them out at $75 per... and always make not of the fact that we are throwing a freebie there way.

And we reserve the right not to give things away to yucky clients.

Based on the work *I've* seen coming out of south-east Tennessee...I don't think you guys have yucky clients! wink.gif

Scarlett,

I also give them the file for free.
Bellissima
if it's for an invite, we do it for them.
if they need a file for a cd case, or something they need to print themselves, i give them the file, but our ©Bellissima is on it, or something with a border and our logo (fleur de lis).

Awesome advice everyone! Yeah my gut was to offer free, but I didn't know if that bad to do for our industry. But I like what Amber said about making it known it's value before you give it for free.

THANKS GUYS!
