I wanted to see what type location stands everyone uses? Just for hot shoe strobes.

I wanted something that would be small and light weight...So I got Dyna-Lite 6.5 foot compact stands that fold to 19". Basically the same as the Bogen 3373.

The more I think about it the more I feel like I should have gotten something that was taller.

What does everyone else use?

Oh and here is an off topic question to anyone that uses Westcott Apollos. What is the dimensions of the 28" Apollo when compacted?

I have a Smith-Victor RS8 Raven light stand that's 8ft. I wish it was 10ft. Planning on getting one of their 10fts for my main light and use the 8ft for fill flash.

I live and die by my black Avenger 13' stand. If I could only have one stand, it would be this one.

WOW Zack, that thing weighs 27 pounds!! do you really pack that around on location shoots?

Here is where I found it: Adorama A100 13' stand.

Is that the one?

I use the 13' stands from Alien Bee. They are OK, I have 2 and one works a bit better than the other as far as being quick and easy to put up and take down. They don't weigh too much and I intend to make a sling for one so it's easy to pack on E shoots...

Ohhh, wait, do you mean this one?

I just prefer something sturdier and honestly NEVER use my DynaLite stands. People love to knock over light stands.

I've got some bogen 3372s which are fairly small and light, but I really only use them in small, indoor, controlled shoots where I don't worry about them tipping.

Otherwise I'm using something like the bogen 3336/3333 and a sandbag. Very rarely do I need over 7'.

UPDATE:

I had already ordered the stands when I posted that so changing my mind really wasnt an option. I got them in and to my surprise with an umbrella the light source is actually almost 7 feet. They def are not the most sturdy stands but the portability is so nice.

I had the adorama 13 foot stand before I sold all my studio strobes to a friend. I would probably get another one of those. Dang Zack thats a heady stand.

I had my first shoot using nothing but speedlights and these stands this saturday and everything went very well no tipped stands. Even had one outside in moderate wind, although i did use some boom weights on the stand.

No one answered my comment about the closed length of the 28" apollo. Zack, I think you praising these at one point. I bought the 16inch for close headshots and it does well aslong as its close. I think my next purchase will be the 28" maybe the 50".

Thanks for all the info.
