Full Version: Just to breathe!

Ok i was hanging out with the high schoolers at my church last night, and we were talking about how life tends to be so busy all the time that we never seem to have time to look around us and see that there are so many opportunities to talk about Christ. We watched this video from a awesome guy names Rob Bell and his topic was on breathe.

Now this was so amazing and moving. He talked about how what if we slowed down and just breathed and see what God is doing in your life and just to slow down and see the opportunities everyday every second of our life's does not have to be so crazy. He also talked about how lord in the bible is spelled L O R D. and in Hebrew its pernounsed, yo vah ha vah, which kind of sounds like breathing. What if when we are breathing we are speaking God's name? It sounds crazy but just a wonderful and beautiful analogy of god being around us all the time, its just a matter of us slowing down and realizing that we could be on holy ground all the time.

Just wanted to share this and what other might think about it.

I think that we are on holy ground all the time. whether it be drinking coffee, taking pictures, going to church, checking email, brushing your teeth or having a conversation... God is in it.

It is in him that we live, move, and have our being.

Is there anything that shouldn't be part of our spiritual life? This idea has been such a challenge to me to have a shift in my heart-- if my heart is wanting to honor and glorify God with everything, he will receive it as that-- and life will be all the more sweet.

Extremely difficult to keep that attitude...
Impossible without the Lord.
Thanks guys!

I totally agree with you shannon. Its just getting into the mind set of that. It would be so cool to have that freedom to everyday wake up and feel that way. I need to check myself everyday on this.

for me, i have to ask God to remind me, and to change my heart and my mind. it's such a process though, huh?

Do you guys ever ask God what to take photos of when you're at an event? Ask him to help you see what he wants you to? I tend to forget, but this is a reminder to ask for the Spirits guidance in all we do-- especially our art.

I will for sure. I went out on Saturday night and took pictures but i didnt pray before hand but had a great time talking to my friend Jeremy about some things that he is struggling with and with god, and the things he shared i can relate to. I got some great pics but I cant say that I prayed and saw what god saw, but next time for sure.

God's name, YHWH (the tetragrammaton, literally "word with four letters") does sound like breathing in Hebrew - י‎ (yodh) ה‎ (heh) ו‎ (vav) ה‎ (heh) - or יהוה reading right to left.

It's amazing that the Hebrews wouldn't from even saying that name of God out loud, because it was so holy . . . instead they'd replace it with Elohim or Adonai.

Speaking of God's name, and holy ground, check out Exodus 3, where God tells Moses who He is when Moses is talking to the burning bush. smile.gif This is where God uses the tetragrammaton - Moses asks 'who are you?', God answers, "I AM that I AM'.

Later, Jesus declares His deity by the same phrase in John 8:58, saying "before Abraham was, I am."

Pretty incredible God, eh? smile.gif

"There are no ordinary people. You have never talked to a mere mortal. Nations, cultures, arts, civilisations - these are mortal, and their life is to ours as the life of a gnat. But it is immortals whom we joke with, work with, marry, snub, and exploit - immortal horrors or everlasting splendors. ... Next to the Blessed Sacrament itself, your neighbor is the holiest object presented to your senses."

Stewart, Thanks for posting that man. I served our high school department for 10 years at our church and was in the word so much. It was exciting and wonderful. I left that ministry when I felt I wasn't making an impact on the kids the way I once had. Since my wife and I decided that the Lord was putting photography in our lives as a full time endeavor things haven't gone the way we thought they would. I own a sign and graphic design business and that has been floating us as we wait on Him to see where we are to go. Psalm 37 has been our "breathe" passages of late. Waiting on Him, resting in Him, glorifying Him. Breathing. Waiting.
