My favorite subjects, hubby and daughters. Playing with my new 5D to see how it handles low light. I am so amazed and so pleased! Shot @ 1600/3200 ISO. CC's welcome of course.

What lens is this. These look good, and if the 5D is a lot better in low light, and noise than the 30D I may have to jump in as that's a big deal for me.

Thanks Jen. Yup, the ones taken outside was @ISO 3200, on that 5th and 6th one the only lighting we had was from the fire, it was pretty black out there. Attached is a picture taken from exact same spot– I just moved the camera to my left and shot above the fire SOOC.
Thanks Gavin. These were shot with the 24-70L lens. Like you low light issues are a big deal for me too since I take a lot of stage picts of my girls where I'm not allowed to use a flash. However, a friend of mine just got the same lens and we were at the cafe/bookstore the other day at church taking pictures. She uses a 20D. It was fairly low light in there also and the pictures were pretty much alike in terms of exposure so I'm wondering how much of it is the lens or the camera? I'll have to do another comparison with her later and will let you know the results.

Rowena, I'm sooo jealous!!! I have so much investment in my D200 that switching to the 5D (that I've been mulling over in my head) wouldn't make financial sense but the ISO... criminey! Great job and beautiful family

I dumped my D200 for a 5D and have no regrets. Okay, maybe when the CC bill came, but none after that! 5D handles high ISO so beautifully!
I really like 5+6. Nice composition of people and great, soft light.

I'm a BIG fan of the 5d.
I've had all Canon bodies since the d60 and it just keeps getting better!
I still keep it at 1600 and once in a long while, 3200. THere's still some banding and noise at that end and I don't like to run extra things, like noise ninja.
Lovely images here!

Thanks again Jen, looking forward to meeting you and Chris.
Colin thanks for telling me which you like as it helps me see better.
Kristin thanks, I really like Nikons too and prolly would have stayed there if they had full frame sensors that were affordable.
Shannon, all the jobs you are getting it should be no problemo for you in no time. Although if you check out The Image is Found they shoot Nikons and I love the noise they get and it defines their style/look. BTW, are you going to OSP West? I want to meet you in person!

[ url=http://www.JenStewartPhotography.com]Website
The reason you can see the code on this and not the link is because I put a space between both the beggining and end without the spaces it would be an active link with "Website" showing and linking to my site

and Chris and I are really looking forward to meeting you too!

lucky ren hen i too know your pain, i have a nikon d70+d200! canon has been hitting me everywhere especially this 5d brute! lol. the nikon d2x is way too expensive, whats the 5ds price tag around? or is it similar to the d2x?
nichanh - i dont know tht selling a d70s will get anywhere near buying a new camera. i know here the most youll get for it witht he body alone is around 250£ = 400ish bucks. but are you selling it as a bundle with lenses also?

My 5D just arrived yesterday! Upgraded from a 20D. My wife has the 5, which i was coveting, so now we are a dual 5D household. But I'll have to "go back" to a 20D as my backup if ever needed...
Can't wait to get out with it. I'm amazed at how well it shoots at the high ISO. It's like barriers broken down as far as digital access!!

I really don't understand Nikon's marketing postition. For over a year they had a $900 D70 or a $4500 D2x, that is a huge gap! Now the D200 is a bit better but the D2X is still way overpriced for it's performance over the D200. BTW, I paid $2150 for my new 5D after rebates.

What's the best way to unload the D200 stuff then?

yeah agreed, nikons selling for cameras is crap tbh. i know here that now b4 the d80 was released the d70 was about £499 body alone, then it went down to about £350 overnight. the d80 at the moment is 599£ some places you cna get it about 50-60£ cheaper. the d200 has only slipped alittle, frok 1400 down to about 1050-1150 now. you can buy them cheaply second hand but at around the 700-800 mark. then the next flagship cameras just double in price. so you either keep at their low end of the slr market or you take a second mortgage out for their higher models. its not truely fair for the startes getting out, but it does class the pros from the intermediates i guess, unless you live in a country whereby you dont get as much money for the same work eg russia! i didnt like canon before but now that ive studied it more im pining to change all m gear for a canon. at work i had used the canon 350d and it was very simple a friend had a 20d and 30d and they were brilliant. but o well, stick with nikon until something good happens!
