I'm trying my BEST to stay satisfied and happy with my new Q.

I'm with Verizon anyway. I will say though, that it is GORGEOUS. Apple has such a way of making our mouths actually water. wink.gif

You said exactly what I was just thinking!

Apple = Genious
<- Dang, I should tm that before they do!

Of course, I learned the hard way with the iPod and iMac... wait until the second or third iteration. Do not buy the first one out of the gate.

Dude....the phone is sooooo flippin' sweet.
I got to watch the Keynote live at work. Probably one of the sickest things was watchin SJ zoom in and out of photos just by opening and closing his fingers. UNREAL!!! Can you imagine having this on hand when meeting with a client? Flip that baby on it's side for widescreen and show them slideshows with audio. I can't wait to get my hands on one. This will revolutionize the way you do everything....and we own all the patents smile.gif

Yeah, as soon as my hubby came home he just had to show me all that it can do. LOL Indeed a very cool toy.

I think the bigger story here is the new multi-touch interactive technology. Watch this video of the creator demonstrating a more complex version. The coolest part is the light table demonstration. Imagine no more mouse and keyboard. It's coming.

anyone else a little weary of touchpad keyboard on a phone? I won't be giving up my blackberry for a while.

I'm a bit confused too, Cingular doesn't sell any wifi phones, purposely. They have tht feature taken off or stop/don't sll the phone. I think the Siemens sx66 was the last to be sold.

I think a lot of the other manufacturers are not going to be happy with Cingular, nor are the customers that have been paying for EDGE/3g instead of free wifi

I agree about the multi-touch... it's pretty friggin sweet. And I guess it has a sensor so that when your face is close to the device, it turns off the screen.

I don't think I'd put up a Blackberry keyboard (the full-size one or especially the two-letter-per-key one) as an example of good design. It's small, in a terrible place on the phone - and the two-letter ones are flimsy and defeat the purpose of having a larger keypad. They are really designed to be e-mail readers.

Phones with good, usable keyboards are the Sidekick, some of the horizontal clamshell designs, and the Nokia 6820 (that I use just for text messaging).

A good, large touch screen should be at least as good as the latter.

And right now, WiFi and EDGE complement each other. Eventually a new standard might replace both, but that won't be for a while. There really haven't been any phones that can can make use of WiFi speeds up to now.

looks pretty similar to me, atleast the BB has full touchable keys. without a stylus I can't see the iphone working well if at all for typing.
I agree that the Pearl is not the best for typing.
Barefoot-Memories

I've tried all of the blackberry-type things. They're just annoying to me.
THIS is what I've been waiting for! I'm so flipping excited about this, and I'm on Cingular already! The Voicemail box where you get to pick which VM's to listen to is just awesome.

I can hardly wait till June! I hope they're not hard to get, though!! I feel like I won the jackpot today when I got a Wii at my local game store -- HA! I just hope that iPodCity is turning into iPodLand (or would it be pronounced iPodRand?) to crank these all out for us smile.gif

I work for cingular as my "day job" and I gotta tell you guys....it's an exciting time! One general FYI: cingular hasn't been getting rid of WiFi. The Cingular 8525 was just introduced and it comes with wifi built in. Edge and 3g are nice but I'd much rather get free WiFi if I can...I think the big wigs understand that too.

wifi is great, I almost got a siemens pda phone just for that. but then cingular loses out on their data services they are pushing so hard. Thats why this is such an intresting match.

I bet!!! Any inside scoop on how/why Cingular got the nod from Steve-O??

and I really want to know how much Apple had to pay out to Cisco to get the name "iPhone" away from them! I know that Cisco's had it for years, and were planning on big stuff w/the name & voice-over-IP.... but we all knew Apple would want that name! I'm so curious what was in that deal!

now if the 8 gigs could be 80 gigs and have it blug into my car and stereo at home....that would be really cool!
Johnny
Watched the keynote last night... awesome product no doubt.

I do want it, BAD! But am still going to hold off until version 2 (like the iMac and iPod) gets released.

But why didn't they add in voice recognition too?
Seems that for some people who may have large hands and fingers, or lazy people like me who hate to type on small devices could really use that feature.

Imagine being able to speak your email and have it type it up for you.
I know that stuff is out there now, but I did not see it mentioned for the iPhone.
And to me, it should just be there if they want to make it the easiest smart phone on the market.

Maybe version 2 will have it... thumbsup.gif

I held off renewing my contract with cingular just for this phone. Seriously, when my smart phone bit the dust 2 months ago, I bought the 8125 and did NOT renew my contract. I paid directly out of pocket for this phone and yes, it does have WIFI. As for the data usages, cingular has a $40 month plan for unlimited text and emails and surfing the web stuff. I pull up my blog all the time on my phone for clients.

But I have to agree about the 8 gig thing. I mean, I would want way more on that booger. Seriously. And for the voice thing. DO you mean for when it types? Becuase I'm sure it will have the voice thing for dialing. I use mine all the time and it's great.

I'll be camped out too, but no apple store here in Lubbock. Won't cingular get them too ? Or MAC first?

hmm....

hopefully there wont be any of the famous mac screws in the side of it like all of its laptops! i think itll be great but not sure whether the first one will be bullet proof yet!

o and i had a 6280 and the screen broke, supposedly it happens alot to that model. saw the new blackberry a few days ago and i tink apple will have to do alot. its sweet, small light weight and packed to the guns with cool stuff!

steve jobs invented a time machine sometime in our future. and he takes one gadget at a time form that future, and brings it to us in exchange for our 'old timey' dollars which are rare (and extremely valuable) in the future (seeing as we'll be on a fully credit-based system, no paper money anywhere), making him rich in our time, and even richer in the future from whence he comes.

only a matter of time before he delivers the iSaber.

Yeah, for when you need to type an email or something.
If we can do voice dialing on our phones now, and voice to text on our computers now, why not add it to the phone as well, since it's running OSX anyway.

And I agree about the 8gb thing.

I was thinking of how cool this iPhone would be if it had a 30gb hd on it, and it could wirelessly receive your image files when shooting a wedding! The phone is in your pocket all day so distance wouldn't be an issue, and at the reception you can call your power mac at the office and start transferring files to it as a backup feature! Add to that the ability to play slide shows wirelessly at the reception on a portable projector!

I think all that tech will be there, and will become available as the need(s) arise.

Such a cool device.

I know what you mean, and I felt the same way with text messaging.
But people love texting and do it all the time on their phones - and it seems silly.

Think of this though,
When responding to an email, you don't have to wait for the other phone to ring, or get a voicemail or waste time replying to the person when all you need to do is respond quickly via email. You can quickly (more quickly than typing on that small virtua-keyboard) speak your reply to your email client, it then compiles what you said to rich-text and off it goes.

The beauty, your words are now saved in your sent folder. You can't do that when just leaving a voicemail.

It becomes hard-copy voicemail. It also allows asynchronous conversations. Same reason I message people rather than talk to them.

If I were you I would have went back into time and put 20 grand into Apple stock on Monday. Stock was up around 7 bucks yesterday and closed today up around 4.5. If Cingular stock was really gonna move you would have seen it do it over the last couple of days, and so far pretty much zippo. I'm sure this Apple partnership isn't going to hurt their customer base in any way.

I knew that Cisco owned the trademark to "iPhone", and they were planning on using it for a Linksys VoIP thing. But since Apple announced the iPhone in such big fashion, I thought that they must have finished a deal with Cisco for that name. Guess not!!
This'll be interesting to watch!
