Full Version: iWork 2007 to have an Excel killer

As suspected, and will likely be announced on the 9th, iWork will finally have an Excel killer. This means you'll be able to run pretty smoothly without any of the MS Office products.

Pages - can read/save as MS Word, but you don't have to suffer actually USING Word.
Keynote - can read/save as MS PowerPoint, but it doesn't suck like PowerPoint.
Numbers - well, you get the idea.

But the killer app for us would be a way to mail merge. We're stuck with using AppleWorks (which works fine) but I'd rather use Pages. I keep asking them at the Apple store, but, you know, if they knew, they couldn't tell me anyway.

Holy Toledo Batman! Why didn't anyone tell me this? OK, I feel stupid.

But now that I look at it, it only merges with Address Book. We need it to merge with the Excel file we get of bridal leads.

Import the addresses into Address Book into a temporary group. Run your merge, then nuke the addresses in the group?

Yeah. I get it. I thought about doing that but didn't want to mess up the address book and have to clean it out each time. Though it might be even easier to just use a different login account and keep that address book empty.

Thanks for the tutorial and the tip. I'm looking forward to graphically styled e-mails thumbsup.gif

That'd do it, too!

When I use Mail to blast stuff out, you can just open the spreadsheet, select all the email fields, copy, go to Mail, paste them into your BCC field and Mail will sort them all out. Easy as cake. Piece of pie.

So, the big question is WHEN is iwork 07 coming out?? My switch to mac is keeping me waiting and not buying something like 06 which will be obsolete in a few days/weeks/months...Anyone know?
andrew
bump... for the same question. i'm getting anxious!

I'd expect it soon. I'm surprised it wasn't announced during the iPhone announcement. It was even up on Amazon for a while, now they've taken it down... ?

I've heard rumors that Apple will be doing an announcement on Feb 20th
