Back to the topic at hand -

It seems my webserver has remote includes disabled. Is the script something that I could paste the code into my page directly? My knowledge of PHP is zero, so I don't know if that would work.

Just curious, Adam, has this stuff been updated yet? If so, may I have a link to newest list?

I will answer for Adam. He hasn't updated anything in the past week. He has been crazy busy and not doing OSP stuff. I think he is almost caught up, so he will probably update tomorrow and answer everyone's emails. Sorry about the delay.

I'll be going through the link exchange and seeing who is playing by the rules. That is, who is linking to everyone else. This only works if everyone does their part. You'll be removed from the list if I can't find your links.

If your links link isn't immediately obvious on your home page (or splash page or whatever) you must tell me how to get to your links page from your home page. Hidden links are not OK -- they must be visible. And they must be on your home page. Otherwise, it won't work and you'll be removed.

I know many of you have said that you can't figure out how to add the link to your home page. I'll help if I can, but I usually can't. Ask your web developer/designer/host/whatever for some help. As always, there are detailed instructions on the help page.

If you have questions, just ask and I'll try to answer them.

This is Adam. We've been out of town for a little over a week so things haven't been updated on my end because of that. I actually went a week without reading OSP. I wanted a break. I looked at the home page once or twice, but then decided not to do it. ;-)

is the list that you are referring to the one that's in the first post in this thread? If so... I don't think that is complete. When you post that it's complete, it would be easier for new people who want to join to find it, if there was a link to it or if the list was posted in every update to it.

Also, in the emails you send out... there is no link to where the updated list is? How do we update our list if we don't know where it is?

Where is updated list?

The updated list is always on our Web site (there's a link in my .sig). Occasionally, people who update their own list will get to the additions more quickly. Many times links are sent directly to me, and not on this post, so I try to let people know that there are new links so they can update their own.

There are instructions on how the list works on the "link exchange instructions" page (also in my .sig file). That page also shows you how to have the list update automatically on your site.

I know there are a lot of posts on this thread -- sometimes it's difficult to find everything out by skimming through them. As far as I know, there's no way for me to update the list at the beginning of this thread. Many of my posts here deal specifically with how the link exchange works and what people should be doing if they want to be a part of all the fun.

I just noticed a teensy error in my listing--there is a letter missing in the 1st "KL Puckett Photography"--the "a" in photography. Totally not a big deal, I'm sure. Thank you again for this!!

JT, I've asked Matt Antonino to edit the list in my original post with the most up to date list. That being said, if people who sign up to be on the list do not choose to utilize Adam's automatically updating .php script, then the onus is on us/them to update manually, and make sure that they have the most up to date list. This is what I do, and whenever the link exchange thread comes up in active topics, I always check it out.

That being said, I'll try to keep an eye on it and ask Matt to edit the original post as the list grows/depletes.

It's a good idea to have the full list in the original part of the thread.

Just a quick FYI -- there will soon be a shakeup in the list exchange, with requirements and everything. Here are a couple, but there will be a more "formal" message coming soon with all the info and an explanation for the requirements (we're not just being jerks):

If you're on the link exchange and don't have everyone on your list, you'll be removed. We'll probably require everyone to use the php script (or use DHTML or whatever you want) to use the include file.

The list of OSP links on your site must be a 2nd level page from the home page (or splash page if you're using one). That means you need a link on the home page that goes to a page with the OSP links on it. Not a link that goes to a page with a link to the OSP links. Make sense? This will help with the search engine rankings.

You must subscribe to the Link Exchange mailing list for announcements.

If you want to be added to the link exchange, you must first set up the page on your site using the include file. Once that's verified, you'll be added to the list. If you're having difficulties getting the links working, just ask. We often can help. If not, you'll have to talk to your Web designer or hosting company. I know this can be difficult for some people depending on how your site is set up.

Your link to the list of OSP links must be humanly-navigable. That is, if I go to your site, I need to be able to follow the link to the page. The link on the home page must be visible. We may also require specific text for the link.

Adam will probably update tomorrow. We spent the entire day stripping wallpaper and painting in our dining room (which also happens to be my office and our customer proofing room), so he has not been on the computer all day. Hopefully after we get the room back together tomorrow morning (just in time for our afternoon of appoinments) he will be back on OSP.
