I am debating on going to OSP-West or WPPI. I've always wanted to go to Cali, I have never been. To be able to go out there and mingle with you West Coasters, and get images for my portfolio from that area of beautiful models are just too tempting! I want to go to WPPI, but since I would be going all by myself it be a little weirder.
Need your advice.
Full Version: WPPI or OSP-West
OSP West...you'll mingle with many OSP friends (some of whom are the industries best). At WPPI...you'll still mingle with many OSP friends (some of who are the industries best)...but you'll also be in the position to meet many many more of the industries best (including vendors). I went by myself last year and am going by myself this year...but I can tell you, you won't be alone once you get there! 
I am choosing OSP west over WPPI. I got alot of help with workflow last year at WPPI and now I want to focus more on getting it right in the camera and actually practicing.
i have to say WPPI... though i think OSP west will be fun and informative, WPPI has sooooo much info, tons of vendors to get info on new products, informative seminars, and fun stuff too. Plus tons of OSP people will be there!
Well....i guess if i *had* to choose...go with WPPI.

Smaller, more intimate; cheaper; quicker; more focused on shooting; the beach!
WPPI:
Huge, tons of OSP people, tons of other awesome photogs. many many more options for classes, discounts from vendors, it's vegas, time to really get to know each other.

Think about your goals for the coming year for your business... what do you need to learn to get where you want to go? The two events are very different. I am loking at OSP-W as a networking, idea-sharing, and of course shooting event. WPPI for me will be more about the trade show, and (hopefully) getting more ideas about how to do business more profitably.
That might help you compare the two side-by-side. I'm going through the same thing trying to decide if I should go to Vegas this year, and if so if I should go to WPPI or DWF.
Good luck, and you won't be alone at either place! There is an OSP together at WPPI, and in another month there wil be all sorts of posts about people looking for roommates!

I'm leaning towards going to OSP-West at this point. Vegas is going to cost double.

the travel might not be more expensive, but 5-7 nights hotel instead of 2-3 is waaay more.....wppi you have to pay for the conference ticket....

a thought to consider,
it's kinda like buying one small bottle of shampoo at walmart for $5 or a six-pack of family sized bottles at CostCo for $15. sure, it costs you more, but you get more bang for your buck. not to belittle OSP W, it's gonna rock!! but WPPI is just really freaking supersized.

I like what Dawn said. If you want business stuff go to WPPI. If you want to shoot and network plus be in Pismo Beach come to OSP West. If you can swing both I don't think you will regret it.
Personally I am having a hard time getting motivated for WPPI. I just got back from Vegas which is not my favorite place in the world as everything is SO overpriced. Average meals for 5 star prices. At least I won in the casino. The only thing I am going to WPPI for is the trade show. You just can't really get a good idea of new products like albums without actually holding them in your hand. I am sure the seminars are good (I have never been) and I am sure there will be lots of great photos to look at. Other than that I know that with my somewhat introverted personality in situations like WPPI it will be week of crowded solitude. I will be stopping for a day or two in Death Valley and Lone Pine so I am psyched on that too. However, I know that in Vegas I will get another chance to see Jillian try shotgunning

If I was going to pick a place to vacation I would pick Pismo over Vegas (and I live just 40 minutes from Pismo). It will be a much more social situation and it will be way more intimate. We got back and posted on OSP how we loved meeting everyone but wished we'd not been so shy. I remember telling Amy Nave that we walked by her like 3 times and I couldn't even say hi cuz the first time I ever knew who she was was on Fong's blog! LOL I couldn't just walk up & say hi.
Well - long story short we wished we had! Everyone on OSP is so freaking awesome and we finally did meet Amy at OSPS and of course she gave us hugs and we talked & it was awesome. I met DJ there and he's about the most humble down to earth "star" I've ever met! He rocks.
Basically - don't be afraid of talking to people (ESPECIALLY if you see me!!!) I want people to talk to me at WPPI so badly man - you will make my freaking day! LOL
Ok, that's a little off the main topic - but I thought y'all should know it. I'll post my cell # before WPPI and whoever wants to call, call and we'll try to hook up as much as we can. We have a few committments - something about 8am? But other than that...

I'm definitely going to WPPI, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Can't wait to see you and Sarah again!!!!!!!! This time lots of hi's and hugs
