I've just gotten about 30 spam comments (all perverted and nasty!) in a period of about 12 hours. MAKE IT STOP!!
Anyone have suggestions?

Is Akismet activated in your plugin panel? I use that in combination with Bad Behavior and I'm good.

Akismet is one of the best. They are constantly updating. You have to register at Wordpress.com, but it is completely worth it. You can adjust different settings and determine how strongly you want to block spam.

Yeah, I have Akismet downloaded on my wordpress. I rarely get spam, but when I do I cannot stand it. I hate getting nasty comments from nasty people.

The Bad Behavior plugin works well by stopping known spammer IP adresses from even visiting your WordPress site. But, it does slow down the loading of your site a bit. I choose to just use Askimet, which doesn't slow it down but doesn't totally block them from visiting.

How do I upload the plugin file to my WordPress plugins directory inside of wp-content?
It's probably right in front of me....

You should have a few folders inside of your wp-content folder. Themes and plugins are the two biggies, I think. But it should be right there (are you using FTP?).

You could use a
CAPTCHA system.
I use and like
reCAPTCHA. Haven't had one piece of spam since I started using it.

Found it! I think it's all active now. If I never see another russian poker ad it'll be too soon.....

Captcha for your contact form is a okay but captcha for comments is a bit cumbersome for visitors. And I think it dissuades legitmate people from leaving comments. I know for myself, if I'm visiting a blog and they have captcha on their comments, I am less likely to leave a comment.
