Full Version: OSP West- Being Nervous
OpenSourcePhoto > Who We Are :-) > Fun Stuff!

Hey everyone I dont get the chance to post alot on here but i think i am going to make up for it with this post.

Ok I'm sure alot of you have heard of The osp west event happening in February. My wife which i think some of you know now(Jen Stewart) had brought up the idea of going to the event and getting a better view of photography, some great information on taking pictures, workshops, and getting to know the others going and learn from them.

I am really getting into photography now these days and taking pictures and learning to edit them, and also helping my wife with the business as well.

I am intimidated about this event cause for one we only have one camera, whic is a Nikon D50, and I want to take pictures while Im there as well and not exchanging the camera between us the whole time. I am still learning so much with photography, but my confidence level here is nil. I don't know. On one hand it could be a awesome event, and can learn from this event, but being nervous already about the event? unsure.gif ( it sounds so cheesy)

Anyway I just want to see what others say or feel like they are in the same boat.

No need to worry about it. I don't personally know anyone here except Jillian and Timco and I expect to have a great time. OSP west is all about learning and having a great time so join in. You can sit back and listen or be as involved as you want. It is going to be pretty informal and just a plain great time. I promise that just by watching you will learn a ton!

oh, OSP West is totally homegrown. we said we wanted to meet up, so we're meeting. a few of the people are going to teach us stuff. and then we'll be taking a feild trip as a group to go shoot a couple.

totally relaxed, totally all levels, no rules (except be nice). i can't think of a single better way for you to get involved with no pressure. nothing to be nervous about.

heck, you show up with a point-n-shoot or no camera at all...i doubt anyone would fuss. smile.gif

if they do, i'll personally kick their cajones!

Sounds like a challange.

Wow, I just looked through my freezer and the real challenge is going to be my film! All I have is Ektachrome 100 (great for x-process but terrible lattitude) and some Portra 800. Both are from 2001!
Game on for the Friday shoot. Hmm, I better make sure the holga still works, it has been under my seat for awhile...
Stewart C.
hey all i was just talking with my wife and we are booking for that weekend so it looks like we will be there.

Just checked my freezer for ya Colin and I've got a couple rolls of Press 800 and a whole bunch of 24 exposure Fuji 100 (the kind from the grocery store) laughing.gif

It's all yours.....

Gee, uh, thanks blink.gif

I'm kind of excited for the challenge. I haven't been using my holga much and it used to be my favorite camera. 1/100th at f/8 or 11 here I come!
See Stewart, it's going to be all fun!

A holga is a $20 plastic camera that takes medium format film. It has only one shutter speed and two choices of f-stop. It leaks light and is about the biggest piece of junk you have ever seen...but it takes some really cool looking images when used right. Did I mention that the focus is just by estimation?
I attached a example. I am a total novice, others have done some truely amazing work with holga's.

I'm learning already... I've never used a holga and I assumed they took 35mm film.... guess my contribution is out. ;-)

Nice image BTW,

If OSP South 2 was any indication, then you are going to have a blast!!! Hanging out with OSP people is the best thing you could ever do. You will learn a lot, you will have a great time, you will make countless friends, and you wont be kicking yourself saying I wish we would have gone!!! Spending a few days with photographers (nice ones, all willing to help) will advance your abilities and your thinking about photography 10 fold. Six months after you have been to OSPWest, I would love to hear back just how much that few days changed your life!!! Go and enjoy, you wont be disappointed!!!

Thanks. It was from a trip to Death Valley where it was severely overcast so it was pretty much the only shot I got from the entire trip.

I think i'm kind of in the same boat as you guys. I just started getting serious about this, and starting my photography business. And I haven't personally met anyone on here. But I think OSP-W will be a fun way to branch out and learn from people farther along than myself.

Stewart,

You can use one of my canon cameras during the Friday winery shoot. I'll probably just be shooting some video or working on last-minute stuff.
