Full Version: One of our own being attacked!
OpenSourcePhoto > Digital Photography > Post Processing

So I was browsing photo.net and someone posted a question asking how one of our own, Allison R does her post processing. Which, after looking through her portfolio I thought was an excellent question.

EDIT: I took exception to some of the responses, but cooler heads have prevailed. Please feel free to check out the thread and make your own judgements.

Link to the photo.net thing?

(that being said - tossing TRA on crappy or mediocre images DOES make more crappy and mediocre images..)

Should we all take pitchforks, or do you want some of us to take torches?

Seriously... just let it die. Encourage her, but there is no reason to go tearing another photographer limb-from-limb for an honest critique... even if it's misguided.

I think it's great that you want to stick up for her, but I think it is a better idea to stick up for her over there rather than trash him over here.

Link added. I know I should just let it die but it is such obvious jealousy and just mean spirited.

I really don't like it when that stuff happens and it has happened to me there before so I just wanted to show some support for her because she is a phenomenal photographer.

while it's awesome that we stick up for each other here...and i totally understand your frustration....I fully agree with Carrie. Standing up for an OSPer should not include tearing down someone else...then we're no better. I'd like to think we have a little class here...at least sometimes. wink.gif

that said, i'm glad you stuck up for Allison!

Probably so. I just don't post over there much anymore because there are so many jerks.

And my first response was not fit for print. I did post something, although not what I wanted to.

Yeah, I know. I just get so damn mad mad.gif

It happened to me there once and I was on an island and the more I defended myself the more I was picked at. To the point where I actually thought about driving over to a nearby town and confronting someone. That's when I pretty much stopped posting there. I like OSP and I don't want that to happen to anyone from our community. So in my own clumsy, ill-conceived way I'm just trying to show her that she's NOT on an island and that we WILL stick up for her.

Whoa! His photos look. Umm.. weird. I just have to comment aside from what he has or has not been doing. Looks like he took the blur a bit way too far.

Yeah, maybe they print better than they look on screen or something. He sure seems to think he knows what he's talking about. Maybe he does...

Well, I have no comment - but works on his site in the portfolio are stock photography, meaning they are not his. So I smell a fish, anyway.

Although maybe he is the original shooter of the stock and works for stockbye- who knows, but I doubt it - this image has been around for years and is very identifiable.

I think it's someone with a fake site who has put stock photography on it, and images that aren't there's. I maybe completely wrong but that's my assumption. I've seen 20 photographers in years past - including one videographer in NOLA who used that for his ads claiming it was there image. I'd be highly shocked if it was his.

I'm pretty sure he's the real deal.

He has credit for it on musebox. It lists the model though, so I think it was probably a model shoot instead of an actual bridal shoot for a wedding.

Thanks for the heads up and for coming to my defense Regas.

Interesting remarks to the post for sure. wink.gif
I am a bit honored to spark so much controversy though. hehehe

Your stuff looks great. Jealousy can turn into many things... Like the others said, just let it die on that forum. Allison already knows we think she rocks and you backed her up so all is well.

Of course Tami could arrange a flamin bag of poo....

I agree, it's just jealousy, by the way, how do you do it? wink.gif

Okay, I've just read my reply with all of the other ones... unsure.gif and I have just realised how it could be read...

I meant, how do you do your processing, not... the other thing... smile.gif

its all a matter of opinion, to which we are all entitled, sometimes its harsh and sometimes its real and of course sometimes its just stupid. take it with a grain i guess and dont lose sleep over it, the harsh post was followed later by a very supportive post stating that if that is what brides want, then what is the problem! which i totally agree - as long as you are giving your clients what they want, then so be it and i'm sure you'll be laughing all the way to the bank. ph34r.gif

Sorry for not getting back quicker... I just saw your post.

I don't think I do anything special. There are many others that PP a lot better than me smile.gif

I just do basic adjustments in Lightroom, and "try" (keyword) to keep mind of skin tones. I try to get images as well exposed and with best range in camera, first. I hardly use Photoshop these days, mostly just for web export and branding images for my blog.

I just try to PP to fit my style. ;)

I think Robert James and Stefanie Pletscher posts on that thread were pretty close to accurate on my thought process.
