Anyone else holding their breath for Thursday's announcement from
Red... their Digital SLR release possibly??
I'm PRAYING/HOPING/crossing my fingers that this blows the 5dmkii out of the water and has usable auto focus!!!!!
Can't wait to see what it is! (or if it's actually released on Thursday or if they just talk about their Epic and Scarlett releases...)
The possibility of a digital slr from them, the possibility of that having somewhat of a film type feel to the images and much much more... this could be THE answer!!!!!

I'm anxious myself, but I'm worried about pricing from them. I have the money set aside for a mark II, but truly think that this cam isn't gonna be close to the mark II's price.

I feel ya... but man... if it's got a mix of the 5d mkii and 1d mkiii and film feel to the images and more, it could be worth every penny and then some.
I owner is quoted as saying that people will likely think the release of whatever they're doing is a scam... sounds right up my alley of what I wanna hear! ;-)

If I read it right their movie camera is already capturing 12 MP at 30 fps and the stills from the movies look really good, even at 100%, I know they are processed already, but still. Amazing.
I wouldn't mind having the ability to shoot video at 12+ MP and pull stills from that as well as providing some video snippets. And really, what videographers do now is very different from what a photographer would do with a video camera.
I think a videographer in general tries to capture almost all the moments and then bring them together to tell a story. A photographer captures the key moments and then brings them together to tell a story.
A photographer with a video camera would catch the same key moments, except in 30 fps instead of 1 (or 6 or 9) fps. How cool for the moments we catch to be in motion?
I'm pretty excited by the prospect and will buy either the d90 of 5dMKII before next season kicks off.

Only 11 hours to go to the announcement.

seriously on the edge of my seat about this...
my brain can't even guess what they're gonna do...
(gonna be BUMMED if they don't announce a dslr) and gonna be bummed if it doesn't beat the crap outta the 5d mkii and the 1d mkiii
I wonder if they've figured out auto focus? High ISO?
My fear is it's gonna be a video camera and they want you to just pull stills out for each shot... I'm down with shooting some video clips for my clients at weddings, but not down with shooting video and pulling some still clips... hmm...
Man... why do they gotta say tomorrow... they could sneak it on their site tonight and I wouldn't tell anyone

Tim i'm actually looking forward to it. I'm always staying on top of the pro-video gear. I have a Canon A1 and a Panasonic 100b.
I didn't know the new red would be true photo quality.

here's where we're at right now, we've got lots of pictures being released, little snap shots of the whole thing built out... sounds like it's actually the dslr, which is also a video camera, you can just switch parts out to build it to fit the project you're working on...
picsmore picsand the whole camera body from the top sorta?seriously, this is something totally different, they started from the ground up and thought entirely "outside the box"...
Releases at 6 a.m. Pacific Time according to the countdown:
red.comThey're predicting 1,000,000 hits to their website TOMORROW alone....!!!!!

Those are some ugly cameras. But I suppose they'll make nice pictures.

That's insane! I just spent a ton of money on a D3 and a D700. I'm sticking with Nikon. It looks like the future of Motion Picture though. Maybe Arri or Panavision will buy them out.

For my style of shooting I would like the 24 MP Monstro for weddings please!
If money truly wasn't an obstacle, I would jump on the 6X17 cm sensor. That is awesome!
Of course, you're looking at a ton of money even for the lower end ones by the time you build the whole system. And I think you can use the Nikon lenses on them with an adapter. But it sounds like you wouldn't be able to switch too easily in the field.

Pardon mi ignorance, but what is all the hoopla about, are these video cameras that use still camera lenses? I see some specs, but most of it seems to be about video, or is there a DSLR in there somewhere that I didn't see?

I like the idea in concept, but right now I can only find pricing on the brain - doesn't appear to be any info available on the other widgets that actually make it all work. I'd also love to see info on the AF system. I'm assuming this is done in the brain?

Very nice... however the price difference is like a 1d S markIII to a used beat up 20d with a broken mirror.

yeah, they made some comments saying that had an announcement coming up aimed squarely at the dslr market. Either they totally shot their toes off and miss-spoke, or they have another announcement up their sleeve, cause this camera has no bearing in the dslr market.
that said, in the medium format market, these cameras would hold a LOT of weight.
also, 13+ stops of dynamic range... can you say wow?

Wow... these are awesome... but until I see some examples from them or info on the AF, etc then these are just vaporware...

Where's the this thread is worthless without pics smiley?
Kidding aside, I would love to see pics and video especially of the 3D unit. The other issue is support for these. Adobe is finally on board, but alot of apps can't use the .R3D file natively and Final Cut Pro uses some emulation and its not native support.
