Why do I keep getting attachments added to my post????? It's has happened
twice now when I reply???? I have no idea where these attachments come from,
they just appear and you can't get rid of them......

it's due to the indexing of the database, post-crash. if your current post # matches a # from the pre-crash database that had attachments, the current post thinks there are supposed to be attachments.
just ignore them.
