My wife just showed me a mobile version of a well-known forum the other day that worked BRILLIANTY on her iPhone, and I'm wondering if that's something we could do with OSP? DJ? Matt?

We could even get people to contribute a few bucks each toward it's development!

Thoughts?

There's a text version of OSP - you just need the right link to hit from your PDA.

While not a truly 2008 Mobile .mobi solution, it's one way to participate while mobile.

Sounds good to me smile.gif Feel free to lead the charge and rock it out. I'm sure lots of people would use it!

i visit osp on my iphone all the time, it works fine for me!

And I grab it from my Blackberry (a little TOO often!). The formatting is wonky, but I can easily read and post.

My winMobile works too, but like Matt's Crackberry it is a bit wonky.

I browse all the time from my Iphone and it works great i might bookmark that text page for blazing faster speeds though.

Bummer, no "view latest posts" link in the LoFi version.

By the way, I understand that you can access the forum on your phone, but how much easier and more fun would it be if it looked/functioned like this (this screen shot taken from an iPhone)?

Are you gonna hook up the BB friends as well? I can't stand the way it looks on mine.

Yeah... This would be a generic mobile site capable of working with multiple platforms.

DJ, could you come up with an amount to raise through the forum to pay one of your programmers to do this project? It wouldn't take but a couple of bucks a person with the number of members we have on here!

I would pay a few bucks - then I might actually be on here . . . no time otherwise. smile.gif

I wish we could but we are pretty booked up with projects until the end of '09 but if you think there's a need then it'd be worth finding someone to fulfill it.

Rock on,

Ok, so I have an official/unofficial answer.

IPB 3.0 (supposedly due out soon?) is due in the 4th Q of 2008. That's uh, now.

It comes with a mobile skin. wink.gif

So let's all save our money, wait a few months, and get this mobile feature free.

If someone can find a free mobile skin or something that works on IPB, let me know.

Sounds like a fair compromise! Thanks for looking into that Matt!

No problemo! I looked for pre-made mobile themes but it's just going to change when we upgrade to 3.0 so I figured why bother? smile.gif
