So I'm teaching an intermediate photoshop class for adult community ed (so excited--I LOVE teaching!), and one of the things that I want to hit on briefly are the current trends in photo editing. I'd LOVE some second, third and fifth oppinions on this wub.gif

I think that vintage is totally in right now
saturated color/contrast boost (while maintaining good skin tones)
textures (with the danger of over-doing it--with great power comes great responsibility wink.gif)
Yummy black and whites and split tones...

Any other thoughts? What are some of the trends that you are loving? Hating? What is coming in? What is going out? Let's talk OSP!

oh my gosh
THANK YOU THANK YOU
very much.
can't stand it.

for me - i think less of the 'edited' and more of
the clean/crisp/proper exposure. little helps
in photoshop that produce that... i guess that
is just my 2cents tho'

oh and DON'T forget to VOTE smile.gif

Diffuse Glow, also not in tongue.gif

I agree, high contrast is very in, a warm, sun-glowy type processing is very in, I see that a lot. Adding grain when it wasn't there, I guess that goes along with texture. The tilt-shift look, not sure if you want to count that since it is actually a LENS a lot of the time and not the processing.

agreed!
no selective color or diffuse glow... and no cheesy borders 17.gif

Ooh--warm sunny happiness! nice! I hadn't thought of that one, but it's a great idea!
Adding grain, great! (we're going to fix an old photo in a class, and then we're going to deconstruct a new photo to make it look old--grain will be great for that!)

tilt-shift... I think it's a good idea, but it would probably be very poorly applied by my students, so maybe we'll only do that one if we get bored. wink.gif

hmm... maybe some kind of polaroid transfer effect ??

Thanks for the input!

I can't stand selective color, but it sort of IS in right now. There are several high-end ads that are using it.

Yeah, I have noticed that too. Whether you like it or not, I think selective color is actually coming back in.

I was at a bridal show with 2 of 7 photographers showing bad selective color, not even desaturated and Brides asked me don't you have any black and white with some color? I was like, well unless done very very well it looks tacky and will not look good in the years to come. They didn't like my answer but they were not my type of client. "My camera does not come with the cheesy setting like theirs" That's what I wanted to say. Though I did it on request once in the past few months I desaturate the color big time so it is not so bad. OSP is great for staying on top of things but I am always amazed at the local shooters who do not pay any attention to what is going on.

oh oh oh white vignettes circa 1979 are so not cool!

And I totally agree on the selective color front... ewwwwwwwww!

Are you talking just in the wedding market? or overall? we're POSTMODERN baby - everything goes and nothing's overloooked. There are no trends - only styles done well and those that aren't
