I cut out soda and fried food in December... took a one day hiatus, and am now adding No sweets to the above!

Anyone want to join me in making January a no sweets month?!?
wrecklessgirl

Sure! Well, I'd actually be challenged more to remove salty foods from my diet. Sweets don't entice me as much as crunchy, salty foods...like Cape Cod Chips...YUM! When we visit y'all this week, I'll bring you a healthy treat. I promise, no granola! smile.gif
AshleyB
I'm trying to limit my calories to 1550 for the new year.. sweets don't really fit into that so I'm with you smile.gif

I love sweets so I may cheat once in a while, but I'm trying really hard!

Amber dear, what are you going to eat?

And no, I can't survive without sweets for a whole day let alone a month. Hmmm...what should I eat in front of you and Rachel when we meet this week?.... laughing.gif

OK, OK, I eat Kashi too and Redmill's Mueslix-mmmm. Chocolate is usually my worst enemy and I hear dark chocolate is actually goooooooood for you. Look for 70% cocoa. It's palatable. You can do it!

Oh yes, about 90% of our high school/college friends eat this that goes along with their earth friendly homes...and we may have some hidden in our pantry somehwere. You know we are semi-vegetarians and shop in many organic stores cause Garrett is allergic to milk, (He drinks Rice Dream smile.gif...

But I cannot give up sweets esp. chocolates...it would take some MAJOR convincing smile.gif

EDIT: Carole and I were posting at the same time and I totally agree!
amber holritz
Just for the month...

For me... it's about willpower.

If I can cut cokes, I can cut anything! smile.gif
jmesser
oh! I am dying here! I just want to pig out on potato chips---salt & vinegar to be exact, and salsa & corn chips....

ANYTHING SOLID! I am slowly recovering from my tonsillectomy and honestly, even soft stuff makes me feel like I am ripping my throat apart! -yes I know you all wanted to know that. So far, jello and pudding are all I can take.

(look out carole, I wrote you that PM WAAAAAAY too early....it gets worse before it gets better)

Oh wow, I can't believe you cut the cokes out???? I'm sooooo proud of you!!!!!!

I am with you Amber! I have 20 lbs to lose and I just can't seem to get rid of it. I did give up my Mountain Dew fetish about 2 months ago and am slowly giving up sugar... yowzas, my teeth will be happy though (9 root canals later). I have an rock solid husband that gives me good support, is Nathan going to do it with you? I was going to try the "SparkPeople" but when I saw that the highest calorie count I could go a day is like 1500, I changed my mind, unless I read it wrong. That's a recipe for disaster. I signed up with weight watchers online a month ago, but I wasn't thinking clearly... the dang holidays!, I still managed to lose 3 pounds though. But weight watchers is REALLY cool. I can still have my Jelly Bellys, 35 of them for 3 points to be exact. Anyway, I know if I cut sugar out all together the weight will most definately come off. Are you including bread and pastas (refined white sugar) in the sugar category?

Not this month... baby steps work better for me than cutting out everything at once smile.gif

So sweets... treats... thats going out in January.

I will celebrate on Feb 1, and then go right back to a sweetsless world smile.gif And I'll add something else at that point!
Kate Benson
o.k., o.k. Just re-read the blog again... NO SWEETS, not no sugar. There is a difference there, duh me!
kaitlin
Great idea to pick one thing for a month - LOVE it. I'll bite laugh.gif

By the way, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kashi (actually, love the GoLean Crunch - best I've found so far that keeps me from getting hungry in, oh, about an hour).

A little off-topic: I started reading a great book at the bookstore last week (French Women Don't Get Fat), and am planning to get it from the library to finish it - anyone read it, have any thoughts, etc?
brandy j
Ok, I am in. We already went through the kitchen on the 1st and threw out all the bad holiday stuff that was sitting around. The only thing that we did not get rid of was the dark chocolate but I will have Sticky hide that from me - he seriously cannot survive without a small chocolate fix everyday, but at least it is dark.

This is totally great b/c I had alreaady decided that my next bite of something sinfully sweet will be my wedding cake (Feb 23rd)! Wanting to look good in that dress has already provided some pretty good motivation!

I'm in....I have half the battle down anyway. I'm allergic to chocolate....SO I don't have a choice there. But yes no sweets. We don't keep them in the house anyway.

Rachel...Kashi....I'm with ya! You know they have instant oatmeal now. thumbsup.gif
Katie Humphreys
amber-i am with you thumbsup.gif i have been on this weight watchers thing for about 4 months so far, so sweets have been eliminated for the most part. however, after a christmas filled with WAY too many cookies, chocolates, cakes, ice cream, etc, i think January is a good time to go cold turkey the rest of the way. at least for a little bit wink.gif

Yay for you for doing it!
I'm in.
sarahbarlow
Amber!! This is so great that you guys are doing this!! You won't regret it!! smile.gif
I've done it twice now for a month for the past two years it's been hard but good! thumbsup.gif
My mom is going for the whole year this year without sugar!!! w00t.gif YIKES!! haha!
B.
Ooooo, this is a good challenge. I am a sweetaholic. I think I could do it for a month. May go through sugar withdrawls, but I can whine about it on this thread, right?

I guess that's my wordy way of saying I'm in. I'm in.

Great idea, Amber.
Shane Snider
I've had a strict "no sweats" policy for a long time now. They ride up in the crotch. Uncomfy.
MattA
Nah - I can't do it. But my goal is to lose 25 by WPPI so we'll see if I can do it without removing all the fun from my food. lol

(Not that it's good for me!)

If I don't lose fast enough, I'll be with ya!
orangecat
No sweets is an easy goal for me...just stick the bag in front of my husband and he will be finished before I can get my hand in the bag!

My goal is to eat what I want, but use more energy...I started swimming at the Y and I love it!
Shyla
Fired food and Pop arent hard for me since Im not a big fan but sweets on the other hand... AHHHHH!!! Thats torture!

OK...Let's do it... I'm in smile.gif
Jenifer Sellon
Amber - I think that is a great idea, I will try starting...tomorrow! No, I will try starting now. I am in my sister's wedding in May in Cozumel, so I need to shed some weight before then BUT chocolate is my BIGGEST vice, I can't help it!!!!

Kaitlin- I have that book and LOVE it! Of course, I haven't put any of it into play, so I can't say if it works. It sounds really good in theory! Very sensible...and she syas you can use this way of life to lose weight and keep it off. She has a second book that just came out and I'd love to get that one, too.
Elaine Soong
my experience is, consume it until you don't crave it anymore!! biggrin.gif

i had a mayonnaise phase (yes, pure mayonnaise), a tofu phase, a salsa phase, a snickers chocolate bar phase, a dorito phase, a gummi bears phase, a poptarts phase, where i just absolutely loved that particular food to the extreme and then after a while it went away, never to return. that's my recommended solution!
Kate Benson
Mayonnaise? Nope, I've never heard of that one.
amber holritz
...

So... should we do a weekly check-in?

Cheaters must run around the outside of their house naked?
Kenneth Soong
Hmm.... Amber seems to have a very interesting disposition to nakedness. wink.gif j/k

Have fun with the no-sweets diet. If you succeed, I applaud you.

Smiles,

I wondered if anyone would comment on that smile.gif

And it's not so much a diet, as a challenge...

I'll succeed smile.gif

I agree! I had a Gandolfo's egg and roast beef sandwich with a Dr. Pepper for breakfast phase, and now....I think I am over it! That just sounds like death on a roll, doesn't it? tongue.gif

I can't. I have 3kgs of candy by my work desk from the boss! lol

Amber,

I am in! Besides once you get past the first month it is easy as pie... OOOOPS sorry! I did not mean pie.... I meant ... ugh.... Turkey sandwich... yeah that is what I meant... With Tomato, Swiss, and Cucumber... Salt and Pepper on Sourdough.... Dang It! Now, I am hungry!

I'll be back! See you and Nathan 2nite at the PUG! I will bring something yummy!
Amy Martin
Amber, I think I'll take that challenge! I'll probably be shaking by the end of the day...but I'm starting pronto! smile.gif
Christy Bonifacio
I'm in on this one Amber!! I am a sweetaholic.... candy is my downfall.... especially sour punch straws!! This will definatley be a challenge!

Yum, I just ate a chocolate bar and washed it down with an ice cold coke, don't you just love the sound a freshly opened can makes, and that smell released as you do it, you can almost taste the bubbles before you put it to your mouth .. .. .. *chiiiiii*

Not. cool......ha.

Actually, i'm reading a book called "YOU on a diet" and it explains all about how your body uses food (gets a little gorey in the details but its funny to boot, so 'ts ok).

As for me, I'm cutting down on high fructose corn syrup and refined sugars. HFCS has something in it that counteracts the chemical that makes you feel 'full' so you tend to eat more. Its so hard because its in EVERYTHING but I'm already starting to feel a difference.

READ LABELS! It makes it easier to make good choices.

stateofthenation
*oddly* I heard just yesterday that 25% of all items in American supermarkets (or whatever they are called there) have corn products in thier ingredients - and that's not including corn fed cow and chicken.

good luck with that Stephanie!
Shan Renee
I'm in too. I have been eating better and exercising since Dec. 1. I have dropped 2 dress sizes!! I have had the occasional sweet treat, but I want to cut them completely. My goal is 2 more sizes before DWF!!!

My "baby" will be two in March...

I don't know if I can call that baby weight anymore... and it's alot more than 10 pounds!

Anyone cheated yet?
Charlotte
My downfall is Dr. Pepper. I don't usually eat sweets so that is not a huge problem but I am having a really hard time quitting Dr. Pepper. I tried cutting it out and I get headaches from the caffine withdrawls. It is really bad I know. I am going to keep trying though. I think I am up for the challenge.

BTW who is this will power and where did you find him?
Alison Bynum
i just saw this, but i am in for no sweets starting right now.
it's on!
