I cut out soda and fried food in December... took a one day hiatus, and am now adding No sweets to the above!
Anyone want to join me in making January a no sweets month?!?

Sure! Well, I'd actually be challenged more to remove salty foods from my diet. Sweets don't entice me as much as crunchy, salty foods...like Cape Cod Chips...YUM! When we visit y'all this week, I'll bring you a healthy treat. I promise, no granola!

I'm trying to limit my calories to 1550 for the new year.. sweets don't really fit into that so I'm with you

I love sweets so I may cheat once in a while, but I'm trying really hard!

Oh yes, about 90% of our high school/college friends eat this that goes along with their earth friendly homes...and we may have some hidden in our pantry somehwere. You know we are semi-vegetarians and shop in many organic stores cause Garrett is allergic to milk, (He drinks Rice Dream

I am with you Amber! I have 20 lbs to lose and I just can't seem to get rid of it. I did give up my Mountain Dew fetish about 2 months ago and am slowly giving up sugar... yowzas, my teeth will be happy though (9 root canals later). I have an rock solid husband that gives me good support, is Nathan going to do it with you? I was going to try the "SparkPeople" but when I saw that the highest calorie count I could go a day is like 1500, I changed my mind, unless I read it wrong. That's a recipe for disaster. I signed up with weight watchers online a month ago, but I wasn't thinking clearly... the dang holidays!, I still managed to lose 3 pounds though. But weight watchers is REALLY cool. I can still have my Jelly Bellys, 35 of them for 3 points to be exact. Anyway, I know if I cut sugar out all together the weight will most definately come off. Are you including bread and pastas (refined white sugar) in the sugar category?

Not this month... baby steps work better for me than cutting out everything at once

So sweets... treats... thats going out in January.
I will celebrate on Feb 1, and then go right back to a sweetsless world

And I'll add something else at that point!

Great idea to pick one thing for a month - LOVE it. I'll bite

By the way, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Kashi (actually, love the GoLean Crunch - best I've found so far that keeps me from getting hungry in, oh, about an hour).
A little off-topic: I started reading a great book at the bookstore last week (French Women Don't Get Fat), and am planning to get it from the library to finish it - anyone read it, have any thoughts, etc?

Ok, I am in. We already went through the kitchen on the 1st and threw out all the bad holiday stuff that was sitting around. The only thing that we did not get rid of was the dark chocolate but I will have Sticky hide that from me - he seriously cannot survive without a small chocolate fix everyday, but at least it is dark.
This is totally great b/c I had alreaady decided that my next bite of something sinfully sweet will be my wedding cake (Feb 23rd)! Wanting to look good in that dress has already provided some pretty good motivation!

amber-i am with you

i have been on this weight watchers thing for about 4 months so far, so sweets have been eliminated for the most part. however, after a christmas filled with WAY too many cookies, chocolates, cakes, ice cream, etc, i think January is a good time to go cold turkey the rest of the way. at least for a little bit
Yay for you for doing it!

My mom is going for the whole year this year without sugar!!!

Very sensible...and she syas you can use this way of life to lose weight and keep it off. She has a second book that just came out and I'd love to get that one, too.

my experience is, consume it until you don't crave it anymore!!

i had a mayonnaise phase (yes, pure mayonnaise), a tofu phase, a salsa phase, a snickers chocolate bar phase, a dorito phase, a gummi bears phase, a poptarts phase, where i just absolutely loved that particular food to the extreme and then after a while it went away, never to return. that's my recommended solution!

Not. cool......ha.
Actually, i'm reading a book called "YOU on a diet" and it explains all about how your body uses food (gets a little gorey in the details but its funny to boot, so 'ts ok).
As for me, I'm cutting down on high fructose corn syrup and refined sugars. HFCS has something in it that counteracts the chemical that makes you feel 'full' so you tend to eat more. Its so hard because its in EVERYTHING but I'm already starting to feel a difference.
READ LABELS! It makes it easier to make good choices.

My downfall is Dr. Pepper. I don't usually eat sweets so that is not a huge problem but I am having a really hard time quitting Dr. Pepper.
