First family shoot - rip it to shreds. It was a cloudy day there was a huge overcast... light was not on my side today. This was sort of a last minute thing - I wasn't really prepared and didn't know what to expect. I'm used to shooting bands with good lights.

Tear 'em apart!

I just requested an add on your myspace thumbsup.gif

I think the first one looks a bit cramped.

the third is my favorite. Overcast sky is a photographers friend, no harsh shadows or lighting wink.gif

those quick spur of hte moment sessions are sometimes the hardest.

BTW, checked out your website that first pic of the drummer from blink 182 is cool!

Family shoots can be so hard especcialy when "some" of the family members looked like they rolled out of bed and decided to get thier pics taken. will say that the color on the first one is pretty good considering you were probably throwing your flash of off of a not so flattering painted wall. The posing however could use a bit more expansion. Feel free when on a family shoot at someones home to move a little furniture around and "make a space" for them to be. Youve got to watch sharp corners because its restricting. Usually, dont put people on thier knees half way, its an "unsure" and unnatural position. I ussually stary with the center guests, the"focus of the family", if you will. The elders or parents in the middle sitting. Then build your family around them youngest in front usually, on thier butt or hips legs to the side smallest might be standing or lying in the grasp of the center or in front. Always make sure that your "circle is connected". Have them put a hand on one another or embrace a child or teen, that kind of thing.
I know that it is very hard in peoples houses, but grab a char or two and mix your levels. That can eiasily be done outside too, with patio furniture or even a deck railing.
I am defintly no expert, just trying to share some tips that have helped me along the way.

Family shoots are hard, feel free to make them easy for yourself. If you need the couch moved...ask them to move it.
Ive attached some examples from a recent shoot. It was kind of hard because the little one was very uncooprative and the setting wasnt all that great, but with a little help from the family, we found a spot or two in the house that proved to be OK.
