Anybody heard of antivirus 2009?
I was on the net...and this thing popped up saying that it had blocked a potentially dangerous virus.
It looks exactly like my avg scan, and now when I open my avg scan, it comes up too, telling me to purchase that I have 49 threats and must purchase the virus scanner from antivirus 2009.
When I looked antivirus up on the internet, it said it was malware and not to purchase anything through it.
It also has some programs to download that will remove the parts that have already gotten into the system.
The problem is now I don't know which software to use to remove it, in case I download something else.
Anyone know what to do?

Well, I spoke with my computer guy...and antivirus 2009 is indeed a scam and a malware.
So, he's going to help me try to get rid of it.
Anyway, if anyone else comes across this, I hope this post helps.

Thanks Trevor. That's a huge help. In the mean time...I am waiting for the computer man, who's likely forgotten about me!

Ok...I got it all fixed up. In case this happens to anyone else you can go install Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and it will fix the problem for you.

I am not generally a Mac you-rah-rah person, but that did make me smile.

Do you use Internet Explorer?
If so, and until you move to the Mac, give either Firefox or Google Chrome a shot. Links below:

let me guess... you got this screen:

It's a complete scam - it's fake fake fake.
Get firefox, protect yourself until you get a mac. Enjoy!

Get Spy-Bot S&D. It is free and will find more junk that you thought possible. It will remove adware, malware, and spyware.
And everybody knows most of these attacks on PC's originate from bad Apples.
