Dell recently released their Inspiron Mini 9...

Not so "mini" when you look at how friggin' thick it is!! WTF?

with a name like Trevor Meeks...it has to be good. No seriously its good.

Yea I don't know why other companies really even bother!

It seems you are talking about an $1800 computer vs a $350 computer. Does not really seem like an apple to apple comparison here (pardon my pun).
Personally... I don't care for either laptop. One looks like a big old chunk of plastic and the other is all show and no Go (strictly my opinion).

The "mini" is the 9" screen size. HP has one too, and real estate agents love it. It actually fits into a purse.

uhmm... when you figure you can pre-order one with a linux OS right now for only $99... I think it kicks butt.

Totally different markets they are targeting...

When I am on a tower or in a bucket truck working on long distance wireless links, I like having my small Asus EEE (similar to the Dell Mini) -- it isn't powerful or super-slim, but it is small and gets the job done. It can fit in my tool belt and if it breaks, it was only $299...

I've used the MacBook Air and while it is cool, it doesn't work well for what I want to do --- I don't think Dell is marketing their Mini as a "MacBook Air" competition. Now, the Lenovo X300 is ;-)

Sweet......love it.

The image sizes really don't show how different these two computers are. The dell is only about 3/8" thicker than the Air, but overall much, much smaller.

Here's a side-by-side scaled roughly the same:
