Full Version: Showit Effects with CS3 Beta and Future?

I'm playing around with the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Beta and it's pretty cool. I like the new workspace and other features. Great improvement with ACR too.

Question I'm pondering is, would Showit Effects 2.0 work with CS3 in the future final release? How about Adobe Lightroom?

Oh yeah, Happy New Year everyone!

Brief Update:

I installed Showit Effects 2.0 to CS3 Beta and its working fine.

Also working without a hitch are the Kubota Actions.

So far so good.

P.S. Photoshop CS3 Beta loads up lightning fast....3-4 seconds tops!

I tried to install Showit Effects in CS3 on a Mac and couldn't make it work.

Ah! I think I may have solved the problem!

CS2 and CS3 have different folder names in the main directory.
So, when you run the Showit Effects 2 Installer, it'll look for a folder called Photoshop Actions. The only problem is, that actions folder in CS3 is now called Actions. So, just create a new folder in CS3 in the presets fodler called Photoshop Actions and then run the installer. Be sure to direct the installer to the main app folder of CS3. The installer will look for the Photoshop Actions folder on its own.

Hope this helps and good luck!

So I just bought ShowIt 2 - and tried to open it up in CS3 - which it did - but it was all fugly... The interface was all over the joint...

Anyone else had this happen? It looks like it may work - but strange like...
Nathan Rodger
Hi all - so it does work in CS3 beta! Perhaps a little buggy - but it does work! Awesome....
Ross
1. itll work on both windows and mac.
2. itll be faster as cs3 is intel compatible and universal wheras cs+cs2 arent, and use rosetta! hence when we try cs3 it seems like lightning in comparison to cs+cs2.
3. problems with showit effects on cs3, shouldnt be a problem although because its a script it might mess around alot, i had to reinstall cs3 before showit effects worked form the tool menu, otherwise you need to go to browse and find the showit script, which takes an extra 8 seconds tops. but it still works and is faster than using cs2 especially for the flatten, converting and save for web time!

not sure if itll work for lightroom, as showit effects is a script and not an action or preset! better to ask swan about lightroom as im not sure! blink.gif

cs3 will be out in full may this year, the first beta of bridge is terrible but the second update seems to be more stable, which is great for showit, i hated the way i had all my images selected went into photoshop then bam bridge had an unexpected error! brought back the pc memories!!

I sorta found a way to open up Showit Effects after working on images in Lightroom. It's a bit rough and task oriented but this is what I did:

1. Open CS2 or CS3.
2. Goto File -> Scripts -> Script Events Manager
3. In the Script Events Manager dialog box, check "Enable Events..."
4. Under Photoshop Event, I set it to "Start Application".
5. Click 'Script' and under the list, 'Browse' for your Showit Effects script file. THis should be under C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Presets\Scripts
6. Once found, then 'Add' to the Events box.
7. Click Done and close out Photoshop.

Now in the Export dialog in Lightroom, on the bottom where it says 'Post Processing', select Open in Adobe Photoshop CS2.

What this does is it'll prompt CS2 to open. And with the Script Event set to open Showit Effects when CS2 is opened, this will bring it up everytime you export from Lightroom.

Hope this works. So far it's helping with my workflow.

Yep I use this method to load - but load it every time - negligible time difference there... BUT the menu is still all fugly and screwy...

DJ - if you are reading this - is this something that can be looked at upon release of CS3?

Any word on an update for CS3? I've just tried it and i have to agree with nathan, the menu is very very ugly, i can't even get to the drop down menu to do the auto adjustments and what not (not that i use those, but still)

I would much rather have one version of photoshop as oppose to 2 biggrin.gif

I just want to be able to use ShowIt on CS3

Bit of an update here.

ShowIt Effects works perfectly now with CS3, i tested it on my laptop and my other screen and the reason it didn't look right on the other computer was due to its screen resolution smile.gif

All is good again. I think I can start to migrate over to CS3 now smile.gif

Ok I must be retarded but I can't get Showit Effects to show up on Photoshop CS3 for the life of me! When I install SIE, it only asks what hard drive to install on and I cannot specify a folder. Help!!
daverichards
Ok, so the only way I can get SIE to load in PS CS3 is to go to Scripts -> Open. Then I locate the showit effects script and open it and it works. How can I get it to show up like it did in CS2?

Have you tried manually copying the Showit Effects 2.0 directory into C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Presets\Scripts?

That's how i've managed mine to work, although the only problem i have is the first show it effects screen where it asks you if you want to replay or record a session.

CS2 on the left, CS3 on the right.

Thanks Julius, but I am on a Mac. Any other ideas why it isn't showing up?

I'm having a similar problem too. CS3 on MacPro. Script works, but the script window has overlapping text.
David from Puerto Rico
I am having the same problem. In my PowerPC MAc it works fine but it does not work on any of my MACTEL. I try to instal and cannot find where it put it. Under Rosseta works. I am also having the same problem with the Kodak Plug in Airbrush. Does anyone have found a solution to either one?

GOT IT!!!

Just follow DJ instructions on how to install SIE but disregard where it says PS CS2 only.

It works for PS CS3.

The installer will place a folder called "Showit Effects Installer" on your root directory (Main HD). Open the folder until you get the SIF folder and move it to

Applications>Adobe Photoshop CS3>Presets>Scripts

Restart PS CS3 and you will have SIE working

I did that but the interface image still has text/images that are overlaying each other - so it's pretty hard to use it.

You can download the new version for free which is good for CS3.

When I log onto my account and download it again (unless I'm missing something here), it still says ver 2.0.1? Is this updated version somewhere else?
Jennifer Grigg
Mine disappeared today and I am reloading and this is happening again. I can't remember how I solved it last time.
