This is my first e-session. It's also my first shot (with people other than family) in Manual mode. This are my friends, so they know I'm just a student.
CC welcome.

Things I learned from this session:
1) Need to learn how to explain what I want them to do better. I'm not very good at describing the shot I have in mind.
2) Don't get nervous about the settings!
3) I need a Shootsac.

7 I know this is not a very "good" pose but I was really just trying to expose correctly. So did I?

Dont lose heart if nobody comments! Been there done that got the T-shirt! Love #1 and #5. No. 7, not bad with so much back lighting! For these kinds of shoots, a reflector works well instead of fill flash. The real trick is getting the couple to relax so your pictures look natural.

For a first time and using manual I think you did well. I really liked 5 and 6. It will take time to get used to posing people especially when you dont know each other.

Some things that could help:

Second shoot for someone... you can see first hand how they handle the things you want to learn more about but without the pressure. I.E How they do the posing thing.
Keep practicing
Check out poses here and in magazines anywhere you find inspiration remembering to keep it ...you.
Definitely keep learning whenever you can....

Good job! Keep going!!

Thanks!

On No.7, I didn't use fill flash. I used spot metering and metered off their faces.
Thanks for the tip though!

Thanks! I was scared about shooting in Manual mode but I finally jumped in. I've been trying to find some info on how to second shoot b/c that's something that I definitely want to try.

Do you have a mental note or some kind of system that you use to remember all the settings for the shots?

Like for example, I've been trying to remember it like this: "MIWAS"

Metering
ISO
White Balance
Aperture
Shutter speed

but it seems like a lot to remember for each shot.

Any suggestions?

Thanks again for the feedback! thumbsup.gif

A friend of mine meets the couple for coffee, takes them out to dinner a few days before the e-session. That helps them get acquainted with each other and makes the photo shoot go mu ch more smoothly for him.
