Full Version: Getting a New Logo

ok ok I have to make a decision on my business name. I have been working under Signature Studios by Shannon for 5 years now but I have not always like it. Maybe because of the lack of any branding, a REAL logo and etc.

my website is byshannon.com. I have thought of shortening it to just byshannon.com but that seems too vague. Photography by Shannon is boring. ????????

But I am doing a lot of changes. I am moving my studio to my home basement for convience.

Here are some of the fabrics I will be working with in the studio. Maybe not the red except for accent pillows or something.

I also just bought a couch in that olive green color.

Should I make the branding, marketing pieces and logo cohesive with the look of the studio?

Anyway the next question is does "Signature Studios by Shannon" go along with this image? I just don't know what to do. I feel its a little too traditional (and maybe to cliche) but maybe that depends on what branding looks like?

Am I making any sense?

I just need some fresh eyes and pros to help me....

I am about to hire a logo designer but I have to tell her what my name is....problem

Thanks in advance!

i love the fabrics, and the colors.

i think "byshannon" is nice, but not super descriptive. i personally don't feel like you have to have your name in it... so maybe try something else... i'm not sure.

guess i am not much of a help.

maybe giving us some descriptive words, like how you would describe yourself, and that might help!

That is indeed vague.

How about something like Shannon Photographic Art?

So if I don't use or have "by shannon" in the name, do I just keep the domain and have it point to a new domain that is more relavant?

Yes, keep the domain if it has enough traffic coming through it, but I agree that it's too vague to use alone.

Since we have the same name wink.gif I thought I'd chime in and give you my opinion (you know how I like to share that).

When I was coming up with a name, I searched all the "Shannon" combinations and couldn't find a good one that wasn't used already. That decided it for me... I HAD to come up with a business name instead. The process wasn't rocket science... just wrote down words I liked, some that described me or what I wanted me to be (haha) and my traits. When I settled on some words/terms I then Googled them to see if they were already in use somehow so I didn't get confused with someone else's business.

My logo I came up with on my own (the text was created by a logo company - but the actual LOGO part wasn't acceptable or even CLOSE to what I specifically asked for). I looked around through pictures and found elements I liked (for the red hen) and mixed it up then added the clover (for lucky) to make it a logo that can stand alone without the text.

I think that's what a logo is, a graphic that can stand alone without the text and people seeing it will know what it is.

This process can be fun if you let it. I had a blast figuring out my logo and like it a LOT.

Good luck and let me know if I can help smile.gif

WOW, I always wondered how you came up with Lucky Red Hen!

Thanks for the suggestion! We'll have to see what I can come up with and I'll post it here.
