I was preparing all of my gear for tomorrow's wedding and I found out my 50mm 1.8 lens will no longer auto focus. I last used the lens a week ago today and it worked perfectly.

The problem started when the lens on the camera (or any camera) gave an fEE error. I read online that the error can be caused when the aperature ring wasn't locked, so I locked the ring. That got rid of the fEE error but now the lens won't autofocus. I can manually focus it, but in the hustle and bustle of a wedding, I really don't want to turning the ring to focus every single shot.

I have other lenses so it isn't an emergency, but my 50mm was my nice, all purpose lens and I hate to shoot a wedding without it. Does anyone have advice on what could be wrong or how I can fix it?

that lens uses the motor in the camera to focus. Take it off and look at the little round spot with the slot in it to see if anything is physically wrong with the connection on the camera or lens. Try it on another camera too. I'm sure you did already, but check the switch on the camera to make sure it's in AF mode.... ;-)

Heh, I'm surprised this wasn't it. =) I actually figured out the problem. When I had the fEE error, I thought the aperture ring needed turned and locked. That got ride of the error, but I didn't try taking any photos. When I tried to take a photo tonight, it wouldn't autofocus.

Well, the ring just needed turned, not locked. I unlocked the ring and it autofocuses perfectly. Silly and novice mistake on my part. Thanks for taking the time to help though, I really appreciate it!

No problem, glad it's working!
