so i had posted yesterday about needing a little help with rim lighting, back lighting and all things fill for a spa shoot that i did today. i looked over a lot of old notes last night and played around a little with my wife as my model and other than the insane amount of dust behind her head everything turned out great! i didn't over expose all of my images like the one on this post but i wanted to show awesome LR is with bringing everything back to where it needs to be. i did shoot RAW...which i only do for commercial work...and i used the following set up.

one canon 580 speedlite pointed directly into the umbrella on a stand about 7 feet high with the speedlite and umbrella angled at 45 degrees. i placed the subject 15 feet in front of the first light. i placed the second light at about 5 feet 6 inches high and zoomed the flash to 70mm. i placed the second light 18 feet behind the subject. i then shot my canon 85mm 1.8. i shot everyone at 400 ISO 11 f-stop and 1/200 shutter. i only used my speedlites and pocket wizards.

the other portrait shots were the proper exposure. the exposure in the attachment was shot at 6.3 f 1/160 which was way too hot. anyway, i was just really excited with how everything turned out so i thought i'd post it. thanks again to everyone who pointed me in helpful directions with links.
