It's a "My Book" External hard drive by Western Digital, 320GB. It's designed to look like a book that you would stack vertically, like on a book shelf, but in our set up, it would work better on its side under the monitor stand. Documentation doesn't say address this issue, and so far no responses from the support staff. (They must be on vacation with the rest of the world except us!)

Anybody out there using one of these and laying it on its side?

I don't know! My husband just bought one of those and it's still in the box. I'll ask him later when he gets home. smile.gif

i've done both...I travel with 2 500gb mybooks in my suitcase with all my images. Those things take quite a beating...

Katherine and Davina both have a ton of them in different variations (rightside and sideways) in their workspaces - should be fine!

not sure... but i'll trade you ... dh got me a 500gb ehd to add to my other 3 hds -- so now all 4 of my ehd's are different sizes/shapes/orientations! ick! i really wanted to stick with the mybook type... so i'd be thrilled to swap my new flat one with another vertical one.

I have had one on it's side for about 3 months now and everything works great!
So far it's very reliable and quick!

My husband says you can put it any way you want. Even hang it upside down! smile.gif No really - he said it won't hurt it.

i think on its side is best because one thing I forgot is that when I have it standing up it tends to accidently fall over mad.gif ... not good lol

Is there ANY question that can't be answered on OSP? I think not. (I want the t-shirt, DJ.)
