Full Version: Lacie drive not being recognized on my iMac

I looked back thru some old threads and found some folks say they've had this problem with a Lacie and their computer and that, in certain cases, it was the power supply cord being faulty. So, because it's Sunday and no phone support is available, I logged a ticket with Lacie asking them if this may be my problem. Not sure when I'll hear back from them so, in the meantime, I would love any feedback from the Lovecats on here - anybody else ever run in to this (w/a Lacie or otherwise)?

I am on an iMac running Version 10.5.4 of OSX. I plug the Lacie (d2 quadra) into my power stripe, and connect the Firewall cord to my computer and the hard drive. Nothing - nothing on the desktop, nothing coming up with a "lacie" search on the hard drive. Nothing recognized under "firewire" in the hard drive. Ugh .... I didn't get any kind of software in the form of a CD in the box. Was I supposed to?

Sorry, just REALLY frustrated and I guess I needed to vent a little. smashpc.gif

I just hope I can get this thing to work!!!!!!!!

Ah, I didn't realize when I spoke to you today that you said LaCie. Yeah, I would return it honestly and get a more reliable drive. LaCie drives are known for being fairly unreliable... When I talk to you next time I'll be happy to make some recommendations smile.gif

Just had a 2TB Lacie drive fail with a bad power supply. By day I am a Sys Admin at a large graphic design firm so I have worked with a number of brands of drives and types. I have had some Lacie problems, more then the other brands to be sure.

lacie are KNOWN for their bad power supplies, yet they do nothing about them.

Did you try another firewire cord? Had that problem a couple of days ago and changed the firewire cord. All is well. Otherwise I have 6 Lacie drives with no problems.
