Amazing how many Nikons are in that shot - 4 years ago you would seen 1 or 2, maybe.

Based on that shot you'd think Canon was the minority. Then again, I think it might be the minority among journalists. (I have nothing to back that up, just based on my anecdotal observations)

I spent some time working at the Olypics in Salt Lake and have also done freelancing for a couple newspapers. That industry is prodominantly Nikon because of speed.

fps speed? All the guys I worked under said that the fps speed with shooting sports was a big reason. That was also what, 6 years ago now? And at the very same time, it was very obvious to me that Canon was ahead of Nikon in many ways.
After that expierence (which was unlike anything I will probably ever expierence again in my entire life) I personally felt like Nikon was only developing into the digital age because they had to, where Canon was exploding into the scene- excited and ready. It seems strange, but the Nikon center was like a library. Everyone was quiet, it moved slowly, was dark, and was filled with a lot of the "old guys". Amazing legendary shooters (which I didn't really know at the time cause no one said a thing to anyone else), but I was afraid to even breathe in there. Now the Canon center? Oh my gosh, they had TONS of HUGE printers, you could go in there and print whatever you'd like and make it as large as they possibly could- at no charge for the press. The walls were covered in amazing color prints, there were Canon staff there working with everyone and their prints, giving compliments, hugs, being excited. I met more than a dozen great photographer contacts, people were excited to talk and share and it was so young and FUN! I could have spent all day there if I could. It was amazing the difference.

And apparently that was the first Olympics in which the film developing center (all done by Kodak) was pretty quiet. Everyone was shocked that from 2 years previous, that everything had changed so much.

it was a really interesting time to be there.

big lens hoods? wink.gif

really? Yeah I wouldn't know how cold it was cause I spent a very large ammount of my time in the media center behind a computer! blink.gif

Actually, that's not true, security was all outside, and very cold standing in line for, and waiting for the shuttle and running around, but at least the day I got to really do events it was nice smile.gif

ok back to topic!!!! rolleyes.gif laughing.gif

I have noticed that when I go to Wedding/Portrait conventions/gatherings I see a lot of Canon gear, but when I go to the PJ seminar every winter it's almost completely Nikon, by probably 100:1. The reasons I get when asked is durability, by far, and the secondary reason I get is focusing speed and accuracy. When PJ's absolutely positively have to get the shot, they want a Nikon.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Can anyone say, "Pool coverage?" I'm all for people having work, but 20+ cameras shooting from the same exact angle??? What a waste.

Send two people and pay the rest to stay home. smile.gif

Funny how the bigger the lens, the less chance it has been "circumcised".
