Full Version: Laurell | Artist Shoot

On Monday evening I had the absolute pleasure of meeting up with Laurell and her manager Sarah in White Rock. I had gotten in touch with Laurell a couple of weeks ago, regarding using some of her music for some slideshows on a new website (shh! keep the new stuff coming on the down-low!) -- I first heard of Laurell's music about three years ago, when she released a worship CD and I've been listening to her on her myspace page ever since! When Laurell mentioned that she needed some new promotional images for a new CD coming up, as well as some press releases I jumped on the chance to spend the evening with her.

Can I just say that this is my absolute favourite shoot: ever. That I have ever ever done. Laurell had put so much thought into every outfit and look and the whole evening was just relaxed and a lot of fun. As you can see from some of the photos in the slideshow, I think I spent a good portion of the shoot with my face flat on the concrete or sitting eye-level shooting. The whole shoot had such a vibe that I just adored! We went to so many different locations which led to a huge variety of images. I walked away feeling very inspired and actually, a little refreshed in my photography. I think it's important to have a shoot like this every now and then that pushes you creatively and gets you thinking out of the box. CC welcome, as always.

Great job! It looks like you had a fun day. Don't you love it when the talent comes ready to be productive?

How many changes did you go through?

What was her thoughts on the results? Did she get something that she wants to use for her next CD?

Great way to barter with an artist you admire.

These are great! #10 and #17 are my favorites - love sun flare and I adore her hat in the last one. I SO WANT THAT HAT!!! I'm a hat freak!! Beautiful work!
Brandi is Cool

Amy Clark

WOW J- these are way beyond good or cute! wub.gif All I can say it WOW! You did an amazing job- she must be super pleased with the results, and let me tell you that for having so many images if the same person, you really changed it up with poses and angles and such. I think this whole shoot looks fabulous! And you really did shine here. VERY VERY AWESOME JOB!

***OK I just checked out the slideshow and even more WOW comes your way. I LOVE LOVe the shot of her and the tree and the guitar with the sunflare. ***

Thanks Tawnya! Those are super sweet words. Yeah, the slideshow is a lot of fun. I literally shot 1200 images and couldn't narrow it down to less than 525...and then I had to pick 100 for the slideshow and then only 25 for the blog! So difficult.

Thanks everyone <3 smile.gif

Wow! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!

Love the sun-drenched images. What lens are you using to get that flare?

wow and you are only 18! You've got quite a bit of talent under your belt. Stunning work. Great colors, I love the one with the girl in the field playing the guitar. But all gorgeous nonetheless. smile.gif

Excellent work! Crisp, bright and fun.

And you are only 18? Dang, I feel old.

Thanks everyone; too too too kind!! I've had some PMs asking: Yes these were all shot with the 5D. On my portrait shoots I bring only three babies: 28mm f/1.8, 50mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.8 -- I think I pulled the 85 out only once for this session. It was all shot with the 28 and the 50. I was really feeling the 28 for this shoot. Usually I don't get as "in your face" with my engagement/wedding clients (trying to work on this! does anybody have tips for making clients more comfortable with really wide lenses?) but Laurell was working it and loved the camera.

i love them all except for no. 4 - i wish you would touch her face up a bit.

smile.gif Thanks for all the compliments and the blog love!! Ah, I'm still in love with this session. I wish I knew how to make EVERY session as edgy and inspiring (to me!) as this one was.
