So I am designing my first ever album... but I just don't know what to think about this spread. Is it WAY too busy?? Does it just not work? Any feedback would be appreciated... I can take it!

Hmmm... I don't think it is to busy. The shots are very nice and I like the B&W "banner" along the bottom. The images though seem awfully dark and contrasty and it may just be that they don't lend themselves well to that small an image size. Don't get me wrong I love the shots. Just seems dark is all.

Hmm, I guess I'm at the opposite end of the spectrum. I really like the smaller shots but, I don't care for the background image with them, I'd prefer just the vertical images on a black background! I do think it's a little busy with both.
btw, Hi Bill! I see we're neighbors!!

Design is nice. Like the low opacity lg image and the balance of the full opacity smaller images. They carry the same weight.
What I see that is a problem is your color consistency. Several of the images above vary between yellow, orange-red and magenta skin tones. If you can't get them all the same skin tone I would recommend making them all black and white.

Not sure if this will make sense, but here's what I would do to simplify a bit...
Decide which images you want your viewer to be focused on- are they the color images or the black and white at the bottom?
If they are the color, I would take out the white layer behind the bottom image and make the color images larger and closer together. I might even crop them square and take out 2 of them, so you have 2 large squares on the top of each page.
If you want to focus on the bottom image, I would crank up the contrast and possibly change the color images to b&w as well so they don't compete.
Just my 2 cents! If you ask me tomorrow I might have a totally different answer!

Ok, so I ended up totally scratching the design. It just didn't fit with the rest of the album, which was very simple. Here's the final... Thanks everyone for your input!
