Nope you can't use the D200 battery grip but it uses the same battery grip as the D300.

So what's the dealy? Anyone shoot a wedding with a D700 yet? Inquiring minds want/need to know!!!

Please
Tunji
Picture quality is comparable to Nikon D3

Lighter than the D3 (a plus for wedding photographers)

Sensor Cleaner

Pop-up flash to control external flash in CLS mode

Camera body ergonnomics better than the Canon 5D

Cool beans and congratulations! The guys on Flickr.com are complaining about the CF card department door. Have you had any problems with it?

Not really. The camera feels rock solid however I still prefer the D300/D200 CF card swing door.

D700 is recommended for any wedding photographer. Full frame + Light weight + High ISO = Amazing D700 thumbsup.gif

I need to make more money so I can get a new one! I really want in to the full frame love fest.

They have a bunch of these and SB900's at my local store...if I had the cash, I would have dropped it that day. For now, I will just continue to use my D300 til funds permit!

So since its full frame do you know if it will crop the dx lens or would they work fine with it. Like the 17-55 and etc?

I would bet that any DX lens will be cropped down to 5MP like the D3 does with DX lenses. I think the closet to that on the full frame is the 24-70 or the 28-70 f2.8.

I'd love a 700 but the 300 is brilliant as well and I'll be quite happy with it for awhile (or at least I have to keep telling myself that in order to stave off the jealousy)

I really want one of the SB900's but at $500 a pop, that's not going to happen anytime soon either. $500 for a flash!!!!

According to Nikon, all DX lenses on a D700 or D3 will be cropped. See info here http://www.nikonusa.com/Assets/Common-Asse...Compare2008.pdf

The new 14-24mm f/2.8 and 24-70mm f/2.8 are great lenses.

Way cool...I am really considering plunking down the change for one.

I picked mine up Friday and spent the weekend in Ensenada putting it through the paces.

AMAZING Skin tones and the AF speed is also lightning fast.

Do you think this is why Canon hasn't released a new 5D yet? They were waiting to see what they were up against? I sure hope so...

I am in the same boat with you! camera.gif So where do you want to sail to, D700 land? w00t.gif

Just picked up one of our D700's yesterday. Should have the second one next week. *crosses fingers*. Shooting in low light won't be as much of a challenge for me anymore! I LOVE IT! smile.gif My wife is using a D300 and I am on a D200 currently.

We'll be shooting our first wedding with these bad boys on 8/08. Hooray!

I think I'm sweating due to NAS (Nikon Acquisition Syndrome).

Hi everyone!
What about lightroom? It seems to be impossible to use it with the new D700. Any ideas about this issue?

Thanks,

Andrea

Adobe should be developing an update for LR to keep up with nikons d700. Dont know if they have an update for the D3, but you would think that d700 and d3 files are the same and it should work with a d3 update too.
JeffreyOakar
Yep, you are right. I upgraded to LR 2.0 and it is working already. Lots of good changes.
Thanks!
Andrea

i love my d300 just as many others have said.. i will be content for now till i get more work in order to justify it as my first camera and the d300 as a second!

Update? Anyone have an update? Anyone shoot a wedding with one?

A casual image comparison at ISO 200 to 25600 with full size images is here
http://www.photicious.com/nikon-d700-sample-images

To my subjective eye the ISO 25600 image quality looks like a ISO 6400 image on a D300. So in theory, it seems you would have the same image quality with a D300 shooting with 1.4 glass as a D700 at 2.8.
MikeRichards
Wow, thanks for the pics!!!!

I hate my D200 even more now. Thanks! biggrin.gif

(Actually, I LOVE my D200 - but the noise drives me crazy!)

We shoot with both the D300 and the D700, and love it that way. Remember, your not going to get the reach with your telephotos on the D700, so in many situations, the D300 is a better choice.
MikeRichards
Yeah, I considered carrying two cameras on me, my D3 with either the 14-24 or the 24-70 and the D300 with the 70-200. But I really love how much more useful the 70-200 seems to be on the D3.

Hi Mike! How is the 70-200 more useful on the D3 vs. the D300?

Hi David! That is the combination I'm leaning towards. Do you ever find yourself wishing you had 2 D700's?
