Full Version: Hot Weather Wedding Wear

So it's hot here in Colorado....upper 90's everyday lately. I'm a sweater, not the big fuzzy kind but more like a pig over the spit sweater. I'm usually drenched in sweat just wearing shorts and shirt in really hot weather. Don't get me started with humidity. But at least around here it's hot and dry.

So I'm wondering what all you hot weather people wear for outdoor weddings when it gets really hot? I'd like to wear something light colored due to the sun but not sure if it's too informal. I just think that I look a lot better when I'm not dripping with sweat with a towel wrapped around my head. Any nice short sleeved shirts? Really breathable pants?

So any ideas?

Tommy Bahama shirt and linen pants? Something light colored won't also show sweat under your arms, which is just good business sense (or scents). I think a nice button-up short sleeve is very appropriate for a daytime outdoor wedding

Hmm, hot weather? Sounds like you need to layer some clothes. Seriously, that's what I do. Wear your light colored nice shirt over a snug white t-shirt undershirt. The t-shirt soaks up most of the sweat and helps keep the nice shirt on top presentable. Of course, if you sweat as much as you say then it's only a delaying tactic.

Good idea for the undershirt. That is actually the only way to go. Shooting in Vegas during 100 plus most of the summer undershirts are the only way. Also stop wearing shorts when you are not shooting. Your body gets acclimated to you wearing shorts in the heat. Then you slap on a pair of slacks and your body freaks.

Also if you really are the sweating pig type, go see your doctor. They have prescriptions that can really help that. If you want to go the cheap route, you can always use hairspray. Sounds nuts, but the hairspray will clog your pores keep you a bit drier. Of course you want to take a bath to clean those pours out after the wedding. Oh and lord knows where that sweat will be forced out from....

Good luck,
Bill

Your Hot! I shot an outdoor wedding in Tucson in 100 degree weather this July! I wore a black tank top and slacks and sweated like a pig. My poor hubby wore a long sleeve button up and slacks and almost died!

Oh, I have never and probably never will shoot (weddings) in shorts, just doesn't look right. I think light colored, loose fitting clothes with a good wicking undershirt are the way I"m going. Now I just need to figure out where to get these things. Any brands anyone likes?

But it's a dry heat, so it's not really so bad, right? wink.gif

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I just shot 3 weddings in 8 days, all high noon, all outside in 95+ weather. I scare my clients I sweat so much and turn bright red. I feel fine, I just look ridiculous.

Cotton long sleeve dress shirt and light pants, with nice shoes. Maybe just pack ice around and stick my head in.

Look for dri-fit (I think that is what it's called) shirts for the undershirts. Any sporting goods store will sell them and if you live in CO you can just run down the street to REI (my husband's favorite store on the planet). The dri-fit (or dry-fit or ??) are really nice and lightweight and will wick the sweat away from you. You should be more comfortable. My husband won't run in anything else and down here, it's hot. And humid.

I second the Dri-Fit option, just look for the better "Dri-Fit UV from Nike" the sweat immediately evaporates. I wear this in black when it is hot with black pants and it looks great:

There was an REI in Ft. Meyers? I used to live in Punta Gorda. I didn't know there was one there. It's one of my favorite stores.

My suggestion was going to be REI-style performance gear or to try one of those companies that sells clothes geared towards travelers. A lot of it is especially breathable for hot weather, and as an added benefit, most of it is designed to be thrown in a suitcase, so it's wrinkle resistant and good if you are traveling to shoot.

I wear white linen tops and black capris. The first wedding of this season was 105 and I was desperate since I get red in the face when I get overheated which I hate and will do whatever I can so that I dont end up looking like I need a paramedic ...so before I went out to do all our outdoor shots I soaked my collar iin cold water and wrung it out. It kept me cool for hours and when a breeze came up it really cooled me down. I know it sounds unprofessional but I finally was comfortable and no one ever noticed!

No, unfortunately the closest REI is in Atlanta. We just ended up in Fort Myers kind of unintentionally--I'm married to a man who really wants to live in Colorado instead!

Down here, the sporting goods stores are named things like Boater's World.

Can I just say that I really don't like summer. Am I the only one? I'd rather it be 60-70 with frequent dips into freezing with rainy days now and then. That's my kind of weather.

yah, coming from houston, i know all about summer's hot weather and 100% humidity. i dearly missed it when i moved over here, but now, i do not. i went bck to houston a few years ago and could not tollerate the heat - it was mid july as well. i thought i was going to die!

i had to put my heat on last week. ph34r.gif

we have only just started our short summer and i love the cool crisp mornings and the fact that i have to wear a cardigan almost year round if i want to wear a short sleeved top.

so yes, i totally understand how you feel about summer!

+1 for Nike Dri-Fit. I sweat a lot and I wear them as undershirts now--they make a big difference.
