Full Version: Permission to Reproduce
OpenSourcePhoto > The Business Side > Forms, Filing, and Functional stuff
Jerome Gibson
As many of photographers either sell or include a CD of images as part of the package. I've only included a CD a 2 or 3 times and while I never give away my copyright but I give the bride & groom a permission form that gives them the right to reproduce. In my form it states their name and a very strict permission for them only and if the form is a copy the permission is void as well.

It is the paper and a faint logo, don't forget to add color. Most digital copier machines won't reproduce the faint background if it does you can tell it is a copy of a copy (only a copier tech will know the difference rolleyes.gif ) ... I also work on copier machines... A call today of a mom wants me to fax over a permission form to a walgreens that her son has sent them a file and she wants to make copies. My only point to making the permision so strict is I was hoping to avoid the images going everywhere and people calling me to fax some walgreens a permission form.

But for those who hand out permission forms how strict or loose is your forms? My thought also being that a bride and groom would know what a print should look like based on the album prints and the prints that I do for them. To me it seems if it doesn't look right they won't just say oh well and others will see an awful job some cheap photo places can produce.

I would appreciate some feed back on how some who give permission deals with requests other than the bride and groom.

Thanks!!
Jerome

hehehe funny carrie! You read my mind.

My release allows anyone with a copy of the release to print any size, at any lab without expiration. I tell them to make copies bc some labs keep the one you bring in and refuse to just review it or give you a copy.

Makes my life easier.

I include it as a PDF on their disc, that way if they lose the paper copy they can print another one. It gives rights for personal printing, emailing and web posting. All else reserved. smile.gif

I was going to ask this same question.. smile.gif

Does your Permission to Reproduce cover albums? For instance if a client wants to create their own album through shutterfly?

I have started including a PDF on the CD as well! It is super convenient I think. smile.gif

if they purchase the CD, they have the images and the right to do whatever they want with them.

it hasn't. i don't think many clients have albums in mind when they buy the rights. i think it's more prints. plus the kind of album we offer, they can't buy. and if you show it to them, they usually fall in love and have to have that album.

+1, I have had people hire me and only wanted the CD of images, but when I create the album and show them it online, they change their mind and order the album as well.

Does your Permisison to Reproduce covers or addresses tampering of final image edits?

I ask this as I'm photographing a graphic designer's newborn child, and definitely am a bit worried that she may or worse will attempt or actually edit the final edited images that she paid for.

Does this make sense?

Ours says they can't alter the images but may have them printed. And it's printed on our actual DVDs. Their contract also outlines this in more detail for them.
