This is my father in law and mother in laws vehicle last night- it was his birthday of all nights. We thank God that they walked away uninjured- especially as they had to wait over an hour in the vehicle so that they could dis-charge the live power lines that surrounded them. The poles made a giant hole in the roof of the car and the rain fell so fast and flooded the inside of the car- and with live wires all around you, that can be pretty scary.

Here are a few links of images and his interview

That is their red Tahoe

video?

Last time the storm hit was last Thursday and we were in the middle of the kids swim meet- this is the worst year I have seen as far as severity.

Wow - that's crazy! Glad they were okay!

I heard there was craziness a few miles north. We had nothing... Didn't even blow the towels off the pool fence. Glad your in laws are safe.

Monsoon season is my least favorite!

that is scary! glad they are ok!

i grew up in tucson, lived there in the 60's, 70's - i remember unbelievable monsoons we used to have in the summertime - one minute the riverbed would be dry, the next minute it would be a flash flood. we used to lose our power all the time. time for monopoly! after the storm would be over, we would all pile into the stationwagon and drive to baskin robins where they would surely have their ice cream on sale - (no power.....)

Wow, I can't imagine!

So glad everyone was uninjured there!

I saw that storm blow across... I think the southernmost tip of it was about 2-3 miles north of me (I'm near Higley and Ray). Mesa seems to be getting hit really hard this year, but down just a few miles south we're not getting much at all. It's weird.

Wow that is crazy. Glad everyone is okay. I saw it yesterday in my backyard while I was playing with my dog. It was really pretty but didn't know it was so dangerous!

Here is a video snapshot I got. No editing except to make it smaller.

That is a scary looking cloud. I wonder why they peeled the hood off of your father-in=law's Suburban. Glad they are ok. Tell him we alll wish him a happy blessed birthday.

Brian- Awesom image. Thanks everyone for the kind words. We went over to their house this morning, where the car was towed- becasue it is not fixable. Is was really amazing to see and realize that they were not hurt at all.

As far as the hood, the poles were coming down one after another flying through the air- they could see it happenening a few feet ahead of them. They were only going about 10 mph because it was so hard to see and it was very dnagerous driving conditions.
What happened next is- the pole was coming- flying straight at them and my FIL said "we are going to die!" and they both started praying. At that instant the pole hit the front and top part of the hood (not the grill) and snapped the metal latch right in half and crunched the hood and pulled it straight in to the air, while flipping the pole over the top of the car and landing right on the top of the car. The windhield was completely shattered and my FIL belives that had the coil on the pole not snagged the lip of the hood- the pole would have gone straight thru the windshield and would have killed them instantly.
They also found about a 16 inch peice of heavy gage metal (some part of the pole or its coils) that somhow entered the vehicle and landed between my FILs back and the car seat. It is a miracle that it did not harm him in anyway.
The sad thing is that although he has insurance- the replacement value is so very little, that he more than likely cannot get a new car- or even a fair replacement. He is staying very positive and is thankful to be alive- all this while he just lost his job of over 30 years because the company closed.
Please continue to send positive energy to them rather it be in your thoughts or prayers.

Wow.....Microburst.....crazy stuff....you guys get the rain.....we get the fires....what a summer!!!! Glad everyone's ok.....there's a lot to be said for prayer!!!

That is scary! They just had a microburst down north of Wichita a few days ago...scary stuff! Between that and my high school town getting almost completely wiped out by a tornado about a month ago (the Chapman and Manhattan tornado) the weather is getting crazy!
