LADYANDTHELENS
I have a Nikon D300
85 mm 1.4
50 mm 1.4
70-200 mm 2.8
28-105 mm 3.5
18-135 mm 3.5

I am looking for a good wide angle lens and all I have found are recommendations for Canon lenses. I am jealous of canons prime lenses. Does Nikon have anything comparable that you would recommend me getting, like the 35, 28, 24, 20? I appreciate your help and advice/experience.

Nikon's current wide angle primes (I don't consider 35 to count... esp. on a D300) are no faster than 2.8. If I'm using a prime, I want it to be faster than that! I just didn't find it worth it when 3rd party lenses were cheaper and faster. I ended up with a Sigma 20/1.8 that I actually like quite a bit... but I want something wider for that real, nice, distorted effect that I just don't get with it (I have a D300 as well). Maybe a 14-24 2.8 biggrin.gif

Edit: With your lineup, though, the 17-55 2.8 sounds like a really good option.

I've got the 14-24 2.8 and it is pretty amazing! I am hoping the new Nikon primes that I heard about come out soon, I really want to get some fast primes.

Just a reminder if your thinking ahead to a D700 or used or new D3 (full frame) two choices are the 17-35 and the 24-70, they are outstanding. the 17-35 will be nice on your D300 and a better long term purchase than the 17-55 which is nice but a dx lens, the 24-70 more of a look ahead to full frame.

sigma makes a 30mm 1.4 lens that's a good price. I'm looking into getting that one myself smile.gif
