Full Version: Help! Files aren't right when I export out of InDesign
OpenSourcePhoto > Show Your Stuff! > Album Design
Kari
I have been using Indesign for about a month... Well, I am working on a book that I have to get done ASAP for an engagement signing guestbook.

I made a predesign... it was fine. Once the bride approved the predesign, I went back and edited the images a little more. When I opened InDesign, it said the files were modified, and I said ok. Now, when I export, there is a RED line on the bottom of all the images. There are two layers in my project, and the background color is on a separate layer. The red shaded area doesn't show up on the background layer, just on the layer with the pictures.

Help! I need to get this ordered ASAP!

Here is a example of what is happening...

CS3
MacBook Pro Leapard
Updated
I have tried several things....Re exporting several times
shutting down
turning off the bottom color layer
Nothing is working.
I made a couple predesigns last night, and I did not have any trouble.
Kari
Ok, now I just reinstalled InDesign, and still the same problem....
Kari
Ok... more info on what I have tried... I hope someone can help me.

I created a new document and copied a page from the original album and tried to export that page. Same problem.

I created a new documet, and made a new box on a page, and drug one of the images in the new box. Exported and the same problem. I tried using an image that I haven't used yet, that had not been re done, same problem.

I checked the images in photoshop, and the red is not there. I can not see it in InDesign. So, it happens on export.

I opened up one of the albums that I worked on last night, exported one page, and NO PROBLEM! I created a new documet, used an image out of the wedding I was working on last night... same problem.

I am going to go crazy! smashpc.gif smashpc.gif smashpc.gif

Still doing it. Here is a new document I created... I just put in a support request to adobe.

I've had something similar happen whenever I export as a JPG from ID.

Work around is export as PDF (high print quality)

Open file in Acrobat (full version, not the reader version) and export JPGs from there.

Or, you can open the PDF in PhotoShop and export from there as well.

Kari,
I swear I remember either K-Swan or B-Harrison mentioning something like this in one of their video tutorials...that there was some glitch that crops up to work around. I'll check tonight when I get home from work. You have those tutorials, right?

Thank you... yes I do have both tutorials. I have to head out now, but you know what I'll be doing when I get home tonight! The funny thing is that it didn't do it before... and now it is.

Thanks Troy..... I will try that as soon as I get back. But, I don't want a work around! It was woking before, and not now! Why? (I'll take a work around if it works now.... since I have to get this job done.)
Kari
Edit... one more quick thing I just thought of on why it didn't happen before and it is now...
I have always done one of two things differently.
1. Exported at 72 dpi for web (predesigns)
2. I have only printed a couple things... they are mini albums. The final size of export is only 3X5 inches, so it is small.

So, maybe it has something to do with a 12X12 exporting at 300 dpi.

I had this EXACT same thing recently... update InDesign. You re-installed so make sure that it's re-updated as well! (On my Mac: Help -> Updates) Thats all it took for me. Good luck!

Thank you lindsey,

Ok, I really was leaving, but I can't leave this alone. I can export as pdf... but I don't was mucky blacks like Ben said in your other post.

I checked for updates, and it said there was none... but maybe it thinks I already updated since I might have done it before I re installed?
Aaron
do this and magic will happen

Kari, got your PM. Try that update and if you don't have any luck, get back to us. I'd actually point you in kevin swan's direction if it doesn't work... so let us know.

I know you asked if I was updated... I checked and it said I was! I went to the apple menu and clicked system update... it said I was updated. I tried to search for updating from ID, but I couldn't find anyting. I thought I always had automatic updates. Is there something I need to do to make sure? Is the system update different than the update on Adobe products? Everytime I get a message that I need an update, I always do it.

yes, apple software update is much different. open up any adobe suite product and click HELP, then click CHECK FOR UPDATES.....

It should download updates for all of your programs. You NEED to make sure to have all of the updates installed!

Best of luck!
Kari
Thanks trevor... installing updates now!

We had the SAME problems earlier PLUS ID was quitting on us all the time. I spoke with Adobe today and in addition to the 5.0.3 update we needed to do an additional fix that has something to do with a conflict with Version Cue.

In case you experience the same issue soon too the fix is here. You download, unzip, install, and it appears to not do anything but then ID will work smile.gif
Kari
Thanks Lianna!

Ok Aaron, here is one I am working on now....
